It is frustrating, but was most likely done by accident. (In fact I'm 99% sure of this) Sorry about your corn.

Seriously though, if you want to make money you'd make a heck of a lot more growing shorter term crops more often.
Obviously this was a big deal to him...maybe it'd be a good idea to have a tap protector of some kind in the game. I know this would probably be useless for a lot of people who don't care what's tapped in their towns but for some it would make a difference.
