Are you sure this is separate from the ten donuts you can get by tapping regular Homer ten times?

I tapped homer 10 times WHILE he was doing the task and I got the ten doughnuts. So you don't have to finish the task before getting the doughnuts. Just make sure you leave the dialog box open, just FYI for those who want instant gratification :D
