Time Traveling Toaster: Crafting

So I have one question: if I have 4000 points left to level up in the Springsonian Museum, and I spend 10000 in Homer Lizard, are the 6000 points from the difference wasted or do they count for the next level?
(didn't occur to me when i was leveling before, and now i don't know how to prove it)

I really wish we could have more of those burning trees added to the crafting because they look so awesome but oh well. :/
