When clearing my own town, I don't check the whole thing seeing as how most people tend to hit the closest house from the starting point. Some of those out of the way houses may be overlooked and in turn may be able to finish being destroyed.

The first place I check when I enter my town is the corners! Quite often there's a house under attack there. :D
