This is odd, the show has seen a boom in the Chinese market ever since the inclusion of the Simpsons Stores and their expansions just last year. However, even though the IP has shown financial prosperity, there was a supposed to be released Vault of Simpsonology book that was slated for release in that market, but eventually was cancelled for unknown reasons.
I am unsure how popular the show itself is with Chinese viewers, but its popularity might be based off of it being a Western property instead of the content itself. We see this trend in many foreign markets, most particularly Asian countries - the same could be said for the Anime boom here in western markets in the early 2000s.
I want to speculate that it has to do with the state-run media control and conflicts with the show's values for the reason why it is being pulled. I hardly think that the game is coming to an end considering there is still much more untouched content and the show is ongoing.
Maybe it has to do with Maude's ghost. :wink:
