Well they have gone to a Medival festival in several episodes - in that gay episode (something like two gays of the house), I think homer was dressed up as a viking!

There have definitely been references to Medieval times. In fact I think there was a Medieval related episode either this last season or the season before that. But I think it is more like you said in drawing inspiration from other apps. In the FG game they've done a comic con update despite the fact that it's not directly related to the show. I hope your wheel speculation is incorrect. I don't know if I can take anymore wheels!

Do not believe so and by looking at the spoilers, it looks like all new original content so far. Supposedly there is loads more so who knows, but I can't remember a medieval themed episode.

doesn't Homer go to the Medieval Fair and become a knight? I could be thinking of something else... there are 25 years of episodes.

They went to a Renaissance Fair in one episode. The one where a fortune teller told Lisa's future where she almost gets married.
