It's the task. Check that.
Also, I was under the assumption that you defeated him with the kids, then with the monsters ( or vice versa) for it to count as one defeat.
Yes. You have to do one 15-heart round with wizards AND one 15-heart round with the monsters to defeat him ONE time. Insanity.
