If you don't wait for the thanks for visiting popup you don't get the money or xp.

The only thing I wait for is the graffiti animation to finish, but I don't stay around to collect what pops out. I try to get to the next town as quickly as possible, but sometimes I have guilt if I click on the first Brown House I see or other cheap building, so sometimes I search for something a little bit more profitable for the neighbor.
