It's far easier to monitor one thread for spoilers than all of them. I'm not willing to monitor all of them for discussion that is (and is expected to be) detailed, but I'm happy to monitor one. Trying to do that isn't "segregation," it's being considerate without the unreasonable expectation that everyone in the world will censor themselves on a discussion board, just on the off chance that someone isn't as far in the quest as them. Sorry if you don't appreciate that.

I think it's important to add here that not all forum members are aware of the way we've been doing things - new members and relatively new members simply just don't realize that they may be posting a spoiler, or that some people don't want to see spoilers. I don't mind spoilers, but I think that this is a nice alternative for those who want to keep their game play spoiler free.
