Conform-o-meter: Consumerism

OrdinarilyBob wrote:
I have a 4.5 Star Springfield, but I'm chasing the Dream of 5 Stars on my Conform-o-meter. I seem to be really stuck on Consumerism. I've only got two stars on that one, and can not seem to make it go any higher, even after adding buildings that (according to the Wiki) improve Consumerism. So far I have the following 18 buildings in my Springfield:

    Consumerism Stores Complete:
    Android's Dungeon
    Aztec Theatre
    Barney's Bowlarama
    Ferris Wheel
    Itchy and Scratchy Store
    Jake's Unisex Hair Palace
    Just Rainsticks
    King Toot's
    Kwik-E-Mart (x2)
    Lugash's Gym
    Malaria Zone
    Sprawl Mart
    Springfield Grocery Store
    Springfield Pet Shop
    Stu's Disco
    Try-N-Save
    Turban Outfitters

I have had no trouble getting the other Conformities raised. Gluttony is only 4, but I can see that one making progress and I've only got 12 of those buildings. How can 12x Gluttonies = 4 stars, where 18x Consumerisms = 2 stars? It doesn't make sense.

I've got the quests to build My First Tattoo and Herman's Military Antiques, but haven't started either yet (saving cash at the moment), and when those are complete I will have 20 places to shop.

Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

P.S. Not sure if it matters, but I'm at level 39.

I just built quick-e-marts until I had five stars...I think certain buildings carry more weight, I had all the stores and premiums and still had to place about 8 additional kwik-e-marts.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm none-to-keen on the idea of planting a zillion KEMs. I've got two, and will probably eventually find it ok to put one or two more, where thematically appropriate, but I don't want to farm them. Eventually enough Consumerism options will become available.

I think one problem, though, is that some of the buildings that the wiki refers to as boosting Consumerism, do not do so. At least if you follow their payout icons. Shops that count towards Consumerism, should display a register. I've been keeping track and see that several of the ones in my OP, do not:

Android's Dungeon - Stack of Cash
Aztec Theatre - Stack of Cash
Barney's Bowlarama - Stack of Cash
Ferris Wheel - Stack of Cash
Itchy and Scratchy Store - Register
Jake's Unisex Hair Palace - Stack of Cash
    Just Rainsticks - Register
    King Toot's - Register
    Kwik-E-Mart (x2) - Register
Lugash's Gym - Stack of Cash
    Malaria Zone - Register
    Sprawl Mart - Register
    Springfield Grocery Store - Register
Springfield Pet Shop - Stack of Cash
Stu's Disco - Stack of Cash
    Try-N-Save - Register
    Turban Outfitters - Register

By the count above, I've only got 10 shops (not the 18 I thought I had). This would explain the low star rating I had. I wonder if this is intentional, or a bug (some of the buildings, Disco and Gym, could be debatable, but comic and pet shops are... Shops, they should count towards Consumerism). If the latter, is there a place to submit bug reports?

I've recently added Lotto 'N' Liquor and when I did my 2 stars improved to 2.5 stars. So that's nice. I need to double-check something though, because I seem to recall when I reaped L'n'L, I got a Stack of Cash, not a Register.

Odd. I just got Herman's Military Antiques and My First Tatoo, stayed at 2.5. I haven't harvested from these yet, though. I'll watch those icons.

These are the buildings I have to get me a 5 star consumerism rating. According to the Thread you need 27 buildings to get it. I'm pretty sure of the first 26 buildings that count and have 4 possibles for the other one. Some of these shops may no longer be available but they may be available as premium items. Hope this helps.

    Kwik E Mart X 5
    House of Evil
    Try and Save
    Howard's Flowers
    King Toots
    Jake's Unisex Hair Palace
    Krypto Barn
    Turban Outfitters
    My First Tatoo
    The Itchy and Scratchy Store
    Malaria Zone
    Just Rainsticks
    Barney's Bowlerama
    Blocko Store
    Mapple Store
    Androids Dungeon
    Springfield Grocery
    Springfield Mall
    Vulgari
    Banana Dictatorship
    Gypsy Fortune Teller Shop
    Costingtons

    Springfield Skating Rink?
    Springfield Wax Museum?
    Noiseland Arcade?
    All Night Gym?

The thing is that the icons for consumerism isn't an exact science. The register icons are definites, but the stacks of cash are hit or miss. The ones in the list you have are consumerism buildings and I believe other forum members have tried and tested it. It could be an icon bug, or it could be intentional.

Basically the only way to get 5-stars as a freemium player is to farm Kwik-E-Marts. Don't like it? Buy donuts and get the consumerism ones - Sprawlmart, Pet Shop, Ferris Wheel, etc. Christmas 2013 really helped with the addition of the mall and some other limited time items. Look for those this year for donuts. The House of Evil and Gypsy Shop will be likely candidates to return this Halloween, so look to pick these shops up as they boost consumerism.
  • AirurandoP Thanks for your list. I will review it and see if there are any I've missed.

GamerGD3, you're not kidding about the icons. I purchased Lotto 'N' Liquor from the Donut shop and when it landed I saw my Consumerism go up a half-star (I'm sure that alone didn't do it, but it was the straw that tipped the gauge another notch), but when I go to collect it's a dollar sign, not a register. Yay consistancy!

Anywho, I'll watch for re-released (or new!) premium items and go from there. Thanks guys!!!

  • Using a recent set of post updates over at tstoaddicts detailing Conform-o-meter values for items, I finally got five stars in Consumerism!! This means my town is a full five-star town! Yay!!

Here are my buildings/items that improve Consumerism:

    Android's Dungeon
    Crypto Barn
    Ferris Wheel
    Herman's Military Antiques
    Honest John's Computers
    Itchy and Scratchy Store
    Just Rainsticks
    King Toot's
    Kwik-E-Mart
    Lotto 'N' Liquor
    Malaria Zone
    My First Tattoo
    Noise Land Video Arcade
    Sir Putt-A-Lot's
    Sprawl Mart
    Springfield Grocery Store
    Try-N-Save
    Turban Outfitters
    Vulgari Jewelry Store
    ZiffCorp Office Building
    ZiffCorp Sign

I have one of each, except had six Kwik-E-Marts (thematically placed), and that got me 4 stars. I added four more KEMs in a small "farm" in a corner of my town, I finished all four without looking until they were done and I had got 4.5 stars. Built two more KEMs, but this time I accepted them one at a time, check each: My 11th KEM gave me five stars, already had the 12th build, so finished that.

At L45, the bar for Consumerism is supposed to be 318. At 10 points per item listed, that's 120 for the KEMs alone, and 200 for the other 20 items, meaning I have 320 points (though that doesn't quite ad up if my 11th KEM gave me 5 stars, but maybe there's a rounding issue).

However the math works, I've reached the goal. Yay!

At least until the next level rolls out. :P

They need to give us a non-unique consumerism decoration already.

True. But at least now I'll know where I stand and have an idea how many more buildings I'll need.

Agreed. about the decorations. I'd love to see vending machines: Like pop machines or candy machines. Say 5 pts of Conformity each or something like that.
  • That would be awesome.

Honestly, I think billboards could also be good consumerism items.
