I am playing on an iPad and I noticed the exact same problem today. Unlike every other thing in TSTO (Springfield, Krustyland, whacking snakes in friends' Springfields), you have to manually pick up all the GOO (or stay in your friends' Springfield long enough for it to get collected automatically) otherwise you lose it! I find this extremely frustrating, as I had visited 100 friends' towns before realizing it, and must have forfeited at least 400 GOO.
kungfugrip79 replied that the GOO will be there when you return to your own town - but I have done several tests and this is not the case.
I imagine this is a bug, not a deliberate effort on the part of the programmers. Hope it gets fixed soon!
What's so much a bug about not getting items you don't collect? It was exactly the same at Whacking Day. I really can't see the problem.
