cant complete defending submissions bug

hi im playing ea sports UFC, im completely stuck on the challenges ground challenges. defending submissions 1 . it say Push R in any direction. but the opponent is just lying there and he does nothin...

Does the cpu have you in a submission already? If so just hold right stick in any direction to escape.
