So "occasionally" your opponent blocks all transitions? That seems fair. If it's every time that's another story. What is the skill difference between you and the AI's fighter, or is it vs other players (your mode says "other")? If you're being very predictable and immediately transition, any half-decent player will immediately deny and will succeed as it's predenied. When your stamina is drained, it becomes almost impossible to transition anywhere, so that's supposed to happen.
Try to hold RT/R2 at all times when you're on the ground. Then you just need to flick to the right direction while holding it. Keep in mind that once you flick to one side, it becomes impossible to flick to another side for about two seconds straight. So don't frantically flick everywhere or you can't deny anything.
AI on legendary (but you use normal) will not respond to fakes and will deny everything that isn't done after a denial yourself. It might suck but it's the only way to make the ground game harder for experts.
You have a point on the takedowns though. Takedown defense doesn't seem to matter much. I block the same takedowns with a 1 star fighter than I do with 5 star fighters. That's not normal. You seemingly can only stop takedowns when you're blocking low when they're shooting.
Ok so I've played a lot since I made this post. I believe I was on skilled ground game. But here's the thing. Despite that problem I found a way to win against that AI, but the game seems to have adjusted to my improvements.
So I tried a fight on legendary and I destroyed my opponent with the same stand up and ground game stats as me. I tried again with a slightly better opponent and I still won pretty easily. Both times my opponents were cut up and their faces and bodies covered in blood. I work the head, body and legs so I damaged those a lot as well. The next day I tried the exact same fight and the AI was 10 times tougher. Things I did in the first fight didn't work this time. Also, literally most of the kicks I do go straight through my AI opponent's body, which leaves me basically stumbling into him with my hands down and every time like clockwork he had an overhand cocked and on its way as soon as my foot goes through his body. And this isn't like "hmm I'm pretty sure my kick landed"...its very clear that my foot should have hit him and damaged him, pushed him back and prevented the punch he throws which either KOs me or almost KOs me. And every fight since that one the same things always happen. And if the kick doesn't go through his body he always blocks it. There's a saying in MMA "No single kicks". You want to set up your kicks with at least a jab to keep the opponent from being ready for it. So I almost always do that but he's able to block nearly all my kicks and also nearly all my punches. I'll admit I'm not an incredible stand up fighter in the game but I just don't see how giving the AI super human abilities is a good way to make it more difficult. Note the lightning fast and perfectly timed blocks he does from my other reply as well. So takedows are out of the question, as are kicks and as far as punches go I can't say I've tried everything. I'm probably just not good enough of a boxer. I'm just confused as to why I did so very good the first 2 fights but now I can't seem to land strikes consistently..oh..I cant remember if I said this but for takedowns, even when he had his back turned to me in the middle of a roundhouse he blocks mine.
Lastly, blocking his takedowns feels like a roll of the dice. I'm able to block probably 1 in 5-7 of his takedowns when im just reacting to when he initiates the takedown, but I've been holding down L2+R2 for probably 4 seconds straight blocking body strikes before he went for the takedown, still holding the defend buttons he is able to take me down. 4 seconds in advance and he wins.
I really hope these things get fixed
