If it ain't broke don't fix it

So I want to start by saying I have played every EA MMA/UFC game and I am a big fan. I don't want to come off as entitled but I truly feel like EA sports doesn't give two [removed] about its core player base. We have spent the last four years learning and mastering the systems, then you change them. You added less than 15 new fighters, but you were sure to add every fantasy legend that no one asked for. I am going to break down my biggest issues with this. Luckily my trial game play didn't count towards my refund timer, so I did return the game and plan on sticking with UFC 3. Luckily I am not missing any of the fighters I actually wanted.

MAJOR PROBLEMS

ROSTER - Roughly 1/3 of every division consists of retired fighters, the rest of the fighters are literally copy/pasted from UFC 3. Why the hell is Vitor in the game? Why the hell is lyoto machida in the game? These are not UFC fighters. This isn't even mentioning the less legendary non-UFC fighters in the game.

Evan Dunham? Nick Diaz? Sam Alvey? Why? Evan Dunham has not been relevant in MMA in 6 years. Sam Alvey has never been popular enough to warrant an in game appearance. Nick Diaz hasn't had a fight in FIVE YEARS! Stop just copy and pasting random fighters from previous games. Look at the current roster and give us the people that are actually fighting in the UFC.

The main reason we buy a new game is to get new fighters. We don't want you to change every system just to be cute little "innovators". I know its not in EA's wheelhouse, but refining systems is how you get good games, not redoing the entire thing.

Grappling - This is the one I just don't understand at all. I've spent my roughly my entire ten hour period trying to understand this new system and I give up. I have no interest in this crap. I know the the devs don't know anything about MMA, but its not just a chaotic mess of legs and arms glitching through each other. When people get in the clinch they usually work for positions, you have removed all of those positions from the game. Instead of grappling, its turned into "Block until you can push off". What about single collar transition, what about a full thai plum? The irony is you devs think this system was intuitive, when it is clearly a contrived glitch fest created to placate the people who only play the games for a month upon release.

You need to give us real grappling back. We need to be able to know what position we are in, we need to be able to have a dedicated escape path that doesn't involve "block 4 punches and you can leave".

GNP - Same complaints as above, it is an absolute mess that makes no intuitive sense. I have played for ten hours and the only way the game tells you how to get out of GNP is to absorb strikes until you can hold block and close. This is ridiculous. It is a horrible system.

Submissions - Probably the hands down worse change, it has completely removed any skill aspect it completely relies on stamina and stats. I spent two hours grappling with advanced ground Khabib and if my stamina is even slightly under his it is literally impossible to escape. We have spent the last four years with the same system that everyone understand, you switched it for no reason. What problem did this solve? STOP CHANGING FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE. Bring back to old subs ASAP. This is bad, horrible, there was nothing to warrant its creation.  [removed]

I may sound like whinny baby, but UFC games are literally the only video game I play and I am pissed that its been ruined. Rather than cater to the core player base the devs wanted to make bright and flashy colored menus to entice you to buy their microtransaction garbage. If you had put even an ounce of effort into the roster that you did into creating all these * pairs of leopard board shorts we might have a good game. Instead, we have a roster where over half the fighters are either not relevant or not even in the promotion.

Fellow players, please bump this post when they make changes  or at least add new real fighters and I may buy the game again.

  • @TGFPdan TL;DR

    - Remove your "fluid" clinch and ground and pound. It's visually hard to follow, it is not intuitive, it favors player stats over actual player skill. It is a horrible change that has no rhyme or reason.

-Revert submissions to the older style that the entire player base has been using for the last few years.

-Remove non-relevant fighters, add the top 10 of every division. How do you not even have the top ten? Seriously?

@TGFPdan Don’t forget the [removed] championship system. One weight class a day

  • @TGFPdan also forgot to mention the take down system, it isn't actually that bad. I like the idea of being able to change directions and I think that is a great improvement. I just think the implementation is horrible, atleast give us a transition hud if you are going to completely revamp the system. You can't rely on us being able to recognize the position based on the glitch of arms and legs that takes place.
