My problem with clinch and ground game

I have a lot of problems with this game but most are minor or personal, but when it comes to the clinch and the ground game I can't believe people defend them. I am not the worst when it comes to clinching or Jiu Jitsu but I am definitely not even close to being the best. I would say my problem is more mechanical than it is an attempt at making this game realistic, which in my opinion is an unrealistic desire. What bothers me the most is how you get stuck in the clinch or on the ground. Mostly due to the abysmal bar loading mechanic, and a little with the fact that it is way too easy to get stuck under/to a person who is decent.

I do block most clinch attempts, especially when you get that sixth sense your opponent is going to go for it, but I do think there should be a way to get out of it faster. For instance if you block one or two strikes from the Thai clinch or you block a takedown attempt you should be able to instantly break it, they shouldn't be able to block your transition out of the clinch. Though you can make the bar go faster after you block it is still very easy to stop you from breaking the clinch, which in my opinion is just terrible.

The ground game is much of the same, there should be ways to instantly get up. If I am in any top position I should never have to load a bar to get up. Granted there are top positions that you can instantly get up but being in full and half guard should be on that list. There are also positions in the game that are just terrible that even people who have played this way more than me and are way better than me have said that positions like the mounted crucifix should be fixed, if you get a guy who is decent on top of you in that position you can get beat easily.

There is more I would say but I don't want this to be a novel and these are the most important points. Both the clinch and ground need to do away with the loading bar system in my opinion, not because it is not realistic but because takes away the fluidity that any fighting game should have. Waiting for a bar to fill from day 1 for me was a bad decision. I hate to bring it up but if they just modified the Undisputed clinch and ground game I think it would've been a massive improvement over this. I don't think my suggestions are perfect and they could spring up more problems but I think they are a good start.

Something I forget to mention was how easy it is to exploit. People don't use clinch or Jiu Jitsu in this game because they suddenly are a fan of Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu, they use it because it easy to get wins with. And what bothers me is that the game encourages this, the slow bar filling and the limited options on defense for people who want to have a good fight. By "good fight" I don't just mean standing up and brawling.

It isn't exploiting though. It is just someone using a position they feel most comfortable in. Same as someone who wants to stand, or someone who wants to take it to the ground. The clinch is really easy if you know what you are doing. I haven't been finished in the clinch since the updates.

Everyone has their own personal style that suits them best...

I had (sometimes still have) difficulties with the clinch & ground game, but if you spend some time in the training drills, i can ensure you that you will make progress.  This worked for me at least

    Good answer.
I'm a blue belt JJ in real life and I just love the ground game. Since UFC 3 Undisputed. So I spent some time learning the ground and clinch game.
I didn't know it was a problem till today!
When you learn the clinch and ground game strategies you have a new and few known game to play. Since I'm playing I just got stuck in an only single clinch spam.
What actually bothers me are created fighters who kickbox without getting tired and as fast as a bullet. And feel no pain...
  • I feel like they tried to change things that didn’t need to be changed.

This post is from 2016 so I'm going to close it down to avoid further necroposting. If you want to jump into a conversation on where the clinch and ground are now compared to what they were before, please create a new topic for discussion and be sure to mention which UFC titles you are referring to.

Keep in mind that if you are providing feedback on the UFC 4 Closed Beta, it needs to be directed in this forum: https://answers.ea.com/t5/UFC-4-Closed-Beta/ct-p/ufc-4-closed-beta-en

Don't "necropost." Reviving, updating or bumping old, outdated and irrelevant threads is not helpful for our community. It's best to check when the thread was created before you hit post, just to make sure it's not 2 years old for example.
