PS4 controller stops working ufc4

I just got ea play and downloaded ufc 4 and I'm having this issue especially when navigating menus (but it does happen occasionally during fights) all buttons on my controller just stop working. I cant scroll or click on anything, it's like the game just froze. and then sometimes when it's doing that my controller will just turn off, full battery and everything just turns off on it's own. I have 2 controllers that don't have issues on any other games both doing this. I've tried restarting everything, logging out and back in, etc nothing helps. what is this??
