Want to clear up any confusion about the un-linking part. You're correct in that EA staff can only un-link PlayStation IDs and Xbox Gamertags from accounts. This is intended to protect your accounts. The last thing someone would want is to have their account hijacked by an unauthorized user and then un-link the Gamertag/PSN ID from it which would cause a loss of data/progress.
What the player referred to as a workaround eariler in the post is "Revoking Access" to the Gamertags/PSN IDs. This can be done by going to profile.ea.com and when you scroll down to your connected accounts, there is an option to revoke them. This does not cause any lost game data and simply un-links the Gamertag from your console you've been playing on that we have on record, so you'll have to sign into your account again as far as I know.
In terms of an update, I reached out to the team and they're still working on it. From my understanding they have a good understanding of what's causing this and it's a matter of getting enough testing in to ensure other features don't break when a fix is in. I wish I had better news to deliver to you today and it pains me to tell you all to continue waiting patiently because I know that's not easy, especially for some that recently purchased the game. I sincerely thank you for hanging in there and continue to let me know if you notice anything different from your end or any workaround fixes so I can ping it over to the team. I want to do whatever I can to help you get back into the game as much as you do, so anything helpful here that gets players back into the game while the team is working on it is greatly appreciated.
