Why the devs went with this design direction is explained by the Creative Director here: https://forums.ea.com/en/ufc/discussion/260740/ufc-4-star-rating-system-explained#latest

While the link to the information is appreciated I think most of everyone who enjoys creating characters do not enjoy your creation feature... or least they enjoy it far less than your previous UFC titles. We do not want these templates, most of all not in offline modes where we should have more freedom.
I won't even start up again on the cosmetic end of things as I've made a whole post about it long ago.
- 5 years agoI don't think that link really explains why we can't create & edit CAF stats.
"Most users when given the choice between a 92 OVR fighter and a 91 OVR fighter, would choose the 92 OVR fighter. The 92 OVR fighter may have a high Switch Stance attribute, which wouldn't have made a significant difference in the balance of the fight."
I don't see how showing multiple 4/5 stars instead of just showing 92/91 solves this issue.
Like I understand the real reason why they did it, they didn't want the online mode to be full of rainbow afro heavyweight clowns with 100 stats. Which begs the question why can't we just have limited point CAFs and if they get too high then we can only play them in offline modes. It's just shocking to remove fun elements in past games from present games.- EA_Blueberry5 years ago

I understand all of your perspectives on how that is a design direction you'd rather have. If been relaying these requests up to the team since the beta for them to review. As this would require a significant amount of online game balance testing, I can't say it's out of the picture but I have not heard of any plans in going in this direction.
For online fights, there is an option in the fight settings to remove CAF players if you want to choose to not to get matched up against that content, so I am not sure about a concern on whether there would be 100's of certain type of fighters players don't want to see. The NHL team also went in a different direction for EASHL (If you've played FIFA, it's like Pro Clubs) which is similar to this where players used to enjoy a full customizable player with their attributes, but it was the same result where players always leaned to a handful of builds that everyone defaulted to because they researched online to see what was the best way to win. It's always difficult to adjust to new systems when the previous one felt great, so I'm not going to discount what you all enjoyed before. We all know customization is a huge deal now in gaming and there's just something fun out of editing a fighter the way you want them to be. This feedback is being heard, no doubt, however I can't guarantee any changes for UFC 4 in the immediate future. The dev team is always weighing conversations like this happening within the community on how they can incorporate these requests either in a future title update or future UFC title. Keep the conversations going and we'll do our part as Forum Community Managers on letting them know what's on your mind.

Appreciate the clairty... but this is why most of us are pleading to have free use to adjust created fighters stats as we see fit OFFLINE.
"...this would require a significant amount of online game balance testing..."
You have a fan base willing to test this out themselves, simply restrict the "testing" to quick fight or any non ranked option. Another option would be a test server like many popular games have.

Even with that being the case you don't simply eliminate options and say "Here's the X amount of successful templates. Have fun!". No one likes less options when it comes to customization. When gamers get clever it's up to the developers to get clever as well, not just chalk it up to "People only use these to win, so we'll narrow the field.".
Trust, if a change like this isn't implemented within the lifespan of this title you'll be losing a good portion of the base that surely will not care to see what UFC 5 looks like.
