Custom settings reset after update between Sep 10 and Sep 15
Description
My Battlefield 6 configuration appears to have been reset sometime between September 10 and September 15, 2026.
I last played Battlefield 6 on September 10. At that time, my custom settings were present and working correctly.
I did not launch the game again until September 15. When I launched the game, I found that all or nearly all of my previously configured settings had been reset or changed.
I cannot confirm which specific update caused the issue because I did not launch the game between those dates.

Affected settings
The reset affected multiple areas of my configuration, including:
- Graphics settings
- FOV
- Mouse sensitivity
- ADS settings
- Keybinds / controls
- HUD settings
- Gameplay settings
- Audio settings
- Other customized preferences
One concrete example is FOV. I had it set to 120 before the issue occurred, but when I launched the game on September 15 it had been changed to a different value.
My graphics configuration was also changed. The image now looks noticeably blurrier than it did with my previous configuration.
Sequence of events
- Battlefield 6 was configured with extensive custom settings.
- I played the game on September 10, 2026, with those settings working correctly.
- I exited the game and did not launch it again for several days.
- Steam installed game updates during that period.
- I launched Battlefield 6 again on September 15, 2026.
- . My previous configuration was no longer present and multiple settings had been reset or changed.
Expected result
Existing user settings should be preserved when updating the game.
If the profile/configuration format changes between builds, existing settings should be migrated to the new format without losing user-defined values.
Actual result
My previously configured settings were lost or changed, requiring the game configuration to be set up again manually.

Battlefield 6 configuration files are located in:
- Documents\Battlefield 6\settings\steam
I checked the available profile files after discovering the issue, but they no longer contained my original configuration, so I was unable to restore my previous settings.
Since I did not launch the game between September 10 and September 15, the regression window appears to be between the build available on September 10 and the build available on September 15.
Impact
Battlefield 6 contains a large number of configurable options, and I had spent significant time tuning controls, sensitivity, FOV, graphics, HUD, gameplay and other settings.
Recreating the entire configuration manually may take one to two hours.
Losing a heavily customized configuration after an update is a significant regression, particularly when the previous configuration cannot be recovered.

- Profile/configuration migration between builds
- Handling of existing PROFSAVEbf6mp and PROFSAVEbf6mp_profile files
- Whether an existing profile can be considered invalid and replaced with default values
