That’s a totally legit feeling. Hopefully Pointi1978 ’s workaround may help in the meantime. Thank you for your patience.

Just had the same thing happening. Opened chat, had to force stop the game via steam.

This has been going on for awhile. Hit enter to get into chat and you cant type chat is frozen....but you are stuck in chat box and can not get out of chat box. It appears that game is frozen but its not, Your just stuck in the chat box the mouse still works. This is so annoying, long time bug.

you dont need to do all that. do your first step and make sure RTSS is closed. then chat works like normal. nothing else needs to be done.

yes and no
this is not AB, its RTSS(rivatuner statistics server). the secondary app that installs when you install AB. RTSS is what allows the OSD modules to function.
unchecking all the OSD modules in AB under "monitoring" lets RTSS close. if you leave one OSD module checked, RTSS with reopen itself automagically. once RTSS closes, the chat works like normal.
restarted the game and got into games 3 times. all 3 times the chat worked normally with no RTSS running. AB can still run for your fans, just cant easily see your fps now.
i would rather have a working chat than worry about remembering a workaround every game.
i would guess RTSS is seen as some cheating program to the "anticheat" stuff dice runs. hopefully the devs can fix their game

rtss only needs to be closed, AB can still be run.
if rtss cant be closed(it keeps reopening itself), uncheck everything that says OSD on your "monitoring" tab in AB.

How can we still be 4 months on and this bug still be a thing? This is a basic game function, and the fact that I have to Alt-F4 out 3-4 matches out of 10 at any point is wild.

Okay, to stop this bug for now, is a 2-step method,, 1st: shut off MSI Afterburner OSD. 2nd: Hit the enter button as soon as its available. Make sure you can get in and out of chat before starting gameplay. The 2nd part is important, every time you don't hit enter asap, then go into game it will lock you up as soon as you hit chat. Hope this helps some gamers, until they find a fix for this Bug.

Hi, I’ve merged the post as this appears to be the same issue. This has been passed along for the team to investigate further.
If you happen to have a controller available, we've seen a number of players mention that plugging one into your PC should allow you to exit the stuck chat and continue playing.
Another workaround for players who don't have a controller:
Unbind your enter key from opening the chat.
You can bind "j" to it, for example, and unbind "All Chat," which is "j" as standard.
The chat window getting stuck may be related to MSI Afterburner’s on-screen monitoring display. After disabling the on-screen overlay, the game was reportedly able to run normally again. If you’re using MSI Afterburner, it may be worth turning off its on-screen display feature and testing whether that changes the behavior on your side.
While more of temporary workarounds than an actual fix, that may be worth a try while we're looking into things from this end.
We'll update the thread once we have any additional details to share, thank you for hanging in there in the meantime.
