Severe Stuttering & GPU Usage Drops (90% to <10%) PC - Ryzen 5800X / RTX 4060 Ti

The game is basically unplayable for me due to constant, severe stuttering, even with all in-game graphical settings turned down to their lowest possible values.

Within a few minutes of a match starting, I get these huge freezes that last a second or more. It makes it impossible to drive or fly, and I'm constantly losing firefights because of it. What's weird is, this was happening in the beta in the exact same way.

My PC Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 (running stable at 3200 MHz)
  • Motherboard: ASRock A520M-HDV
  • OS: Windows 11

What I've Tried to Fix It:

First off, I'm 100% sure my PC isn't the problem. I can run every other demanding game I own (like Helldivers 2, etc.) perfectly fine with no stuttering at all. This only happens with this game.

I have spent hours trying to fix this on my end.

  • I've done a complete, fresh reinstall of the game.
  • I've tried a 'Clean Boot' of Windows with all my background software disabled.
  • I even went as far as using DDU to completely wipe my graphics drivers in Safe Mode and install them fresh.
  • I also made sure my RAM was running at its correct speed (3200 MHz) and was fully stable.

The stuttering is exactly the same no matter what I do.

The Hard Data (from MSI Afterburner):

I used MSI Afterburner's overlay to watch my system stats while playing. During normal gameplay, my CPU temperature is fine (around 80°C) with usage sitting around a steady 70%—so it's not being maxed out or overheating. My GPU is also running very cool at a steady 50°C, and its usage is normally at 90-95%.

But when the stutter hits, the GPU usage suddenly drops off a cliff to less than 10%. At that exact moment, my frametime skyrockets from a smooth ~6ms to over 70ms. It looks like the GPU just stops getting work from the CPU for a second.

Hope this info helps you guys track down the bug. Cheers.

  • Just a quick update to my report above.

I did some more testing and found something very interesting. I tried using the Nvidia App's global settings to cap my frame rate to 144 FPS to match my monitor's refresh rate.

The result was a noticeable change. The bad news is that the game-breaking stuttering is still present. The good news is that it took about twice as long to start, and the freezes happened less often.

This really seems to suggest that the bug is related to some kind of cumulative stress or resource issue that builds up over time. The lower, capped frame rate just makes that process take longer.

Thought I'd share as this might be a critical clue for the dev team. Hope this helps you guys track it down. Cheers.

  • Hi everyone,

Just posting an update to this thread to say that my issue is now 100% SOLVED.

A massive thank you to another user on these forums,  CPU_UK who suggested the fix that worked for me.

As a reminder, the problem was severe, unplayable stuttering on my PC (Ryzen 7 5800X / RTX 4060 Ti), where performance monitoring showed my GPU usage dropping from ~90% to less than 10% during the freezes. The game was unplayable.

    THE FIX

The solution was to manually create a user.cfg text file in the game's main installation directory. This seems to force the game to properly utilize the CPU's cores and threads, bypassing a bug in the engine.

My specific CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (8 cores / 16 threads). For anyone with the same or a similar CPU, here is the exact text that completely fixed the stuttering for me:

    1. Create the user.cfg file:
    • Open Notepad, paste the following text into it:

    Thread.ProcessorCount 8
    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
    Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
    Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
    GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16

    • Click File -> Save As...
    • Change "Save as type" to "All Files".
    • Name the file exactly user.cfg and save it.
    1. Place the file in your game directory:
    • You need to put this file in the main folder where the game's .exe file is.
    • For Steam users, the easiest way to find this is:
      • Right-click the game in your Steam Library -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Browse...

Since creating and saving this file, I have played for hours without a single stutter. The game is now running perfectly smoothly on High settings.

I hope this helps anyone else who is experiencing the same frustrating issue! I'm marking this as the solution.

    Cheers.
