Support specialist 3 airbust launcher bug

So recently i have been on a quest completing all class assignments and now im doing it on support.
I have the last assignment to do before completing it and to do it u have to deal 2000 damage with airbust launcher.
So the damage only counts as direct damage not counting fire which is very hard and tedious to do.
I dont know if its design choice or a bug.
