Tank instant death from grenade launcher

I doubt a vehicle mounted 40mm fragmentation grenade is designed to hit as hard as an MBT's 105mm cannon. I've been destroyed this way a handful of times now, but only just realized it was the grenade launcher that was hitting me so hard.
