Unlapping during Safety Car only partially implemented

It seems that the ability to unlap under the Safety Car only works under the specific circumstance when the player is lapped, and is the first car behind the Safety Car.  Otherwise, there is no prompt to unlap, and attempts to do so are met with penalties/DSQ.

This is an important aspect of real races and prevents a mess of blue flags upon race restart.  Would be great if the team could take a look at why Safety Car unlapping isn't triggering properly in most cases.

  • What do you mean?

    It means if they could make this feature it'd have been in the game many many years ago. They unable sort out 60 kph pit lane speed limit at Silverstone because pitting counts as lap completed etc.

    I mean, we could've said the same thing about red flags until that feature made it into the game.  I don't think the fact that there's an issue with it now necessarily precludes the possibility of it being fixed.  But I guess we'll see.

    Just hit this in career mode.  Under the safety car, there are six cars between P1 and P2.  It leads to a really messy, unfun (not to mention strategy-killing) restart.

    Just like figuring out how to put in a wet weather kill switch into the career modes or how to prevent AI cars from bunching during qualifying the devs cannot figure out how to implement this at this time. My suspicion sits with the mess that the code currently is with poor documentation. May be now that they dumped the old gen consoles there might be some movement but I would not expect them to do anything this year. So your choice is play as it is or turn the safety car off entirely. 

  • This completely ruins high lap count racing. Many leagues that use the multiplayer feature to be able to run a curated season of high lap races, have races turn into pure chaos with this not being fixed. Even as an arcade game, holding the title of formula 1 they should make sure even the small ( and this is big) details should be looked over.
