Hard Shutoff On PS5

I’ve been battling a strange issue all morning that appears to be specific to Madden NFL 27.

Madden 27 seems to be triggering my PS5’s safety shutdown. On multiple attempts, my PS5 has completely powered off after approximately 20–30 minutes of gameplay. This is not a normal game crash—the entire console abruptly loses power, and in all instances I have to disconnect and reconnect the power cable before the PS5 will turn back on.

I’ve done extensive troubleshooting on the console. I cleaned the fan and accessible internals, verified there was no obvious overheating issue, rebuilt the PS5 database, restored licenses, and checked for both PS5 system and Madden updates. The problem persists.

Most importantly, I tested MLB The Show 26, NBA 2K26, Planet Coaster 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and even Madden NFL 26 on the same PS5. None of them cause the console to shut down. Madden NFL 27 is the only game that consistently reproduces the issue.

I have reproduced the shutdown in multiple Madden 27 game modes.

Based on this testing, this appears to be a Madden NFL 27 stability/software issue rather than a general PS5 hardware issue. Please investigate and patch this as soon as possible. In its current state, I cannot reliably play the game I purchased without risking a hard console shutdown.

    Hoping for a resolution soon or atleast a work around. The green screen hard crash is wrecking people's hard drives.

    PlayStation 5, vertical, performance mode, no SSD, inside media cabinet with door open to prevent overheat and with cooler fan attachment, LG TV less than 3 years old and it happened to me in a menu & not during gameplay

    Thank you for replying,EA_Kent​. 

    I am running the original launch PS5. It is in vertical position running on an Insignia 4k UHD Fire TV. I primarily play Superstar and MUT. However, the issue occurs in all game modes. I have an internal SSD, but no external. I have ran the game on both fidelity and performance modes with the same issue. 

    I pray that you guys are able to patch this soon. It’s frustrating only being able to play 20-30 minutes at a time before having to restart my PS5. I didn’t even get to play during the early access because of the bug. I hope I can get some form of compensation for the time (and money) that I’ve lost.

    Xbox Series X. Samsung curved UHD tv. Vertically set up.  Literally any game mode while actually playing a game.  Doesn't happen in menus.  End of my entertainment center with plenty of space for breathability. Performance. No SSD.

    Same crashing issue. Ps5 pro. Lg old c4 TV. Stand vertical playing on franchise mode. Console location on its own stand open space its the cleanest thing I own. Performance pro and ssd internal and 2.1 hdmi.

    Ps5 pro, performance pro, and visual pro lg c1 oled 2.1 hdmi 4k 120 hz  vertical playstion, franchise mode playing the game console located in a open ventilated room dusted daily, ssd is and internal and have it stored on console storage. Can play other games just fine no issues. Been playing cfb 27 until a fix opens up.

    We're looking to gather some details to help us look into these reports. When you have the chance, please reply to this thread with as much of the following info as possible: 

    • Which console are you using? (PS5, PS5 Digital, PS5 Pro)
    • What kind of tv do you have?
    • How is your console set up? (horizontally or vertically?)
    • What game mode are you playing when this happens?
    • Where is your console located? (end table, the floor, etc)
    • What settings are your running Madden NFL 27 on?
    • Is there an SSD plugged into your console?
