Character sometimes not crouching when right stick pulled down

I'm aware that sometimes my character's animation state makes them unable to crouch by design, this is on top of that.

Sometimes when I'm preparing for a flip trick, my character doesn't crouch to show that they're "charging" an ollie. Sometimes when this happens I'm able to do a full height ollie even though it didn't show my character crouching, sometimes my character won't ollie at all. Seems like there's a disconnect been what the animation shows and what's happening mechanically under the hood.

It seems to happen mostly when my character would be animation locked, such as right after a push. Normally I push, hold down on the stick, there's a slight delay as my character finishes the push animation and begins crouching, and then I can ollie. Sometimes though, I push, hold down, and my character never crouches. From there like I said sometimes I can full height ollie sometimes I can't. I'm using a Nintendo switch pro controller that works for every other aspect of the game as far as I can tell.

  • Happens to me too. I'm also using switch pro controller, but had the same issue on PS4 controller. Playing with experienced control scheme fwiw. Tried restarting, tweaking what feels like relevant settings, switching control schemes.  Some days this bug occurs, other days it's not an issue at all.

Edit: Managed to fix this. If you're on steam, open the steam overlay (home button on switch controller) -> controllers tab on the bottom -> edit layout -> right joystick behavior -> click on cogwheel -> set the stick response curve to aggressive. Not noticing any side effects atm. I also might have set the "current button layout" to the gamepad template before doing this, I can't remember.

Edit 2:  Try setting it to relaxed if you're finding it hard to manual.
