Creating, replying to, and editing Discussions on the EA Forums

This is a quick overview of the basics of posting on the EA forums. We’ve worked to make the process intuitive, but if you want something more explicit, check the appropriate sections below!

Creating a Discussion

Creating a new Discussion is easy, just go to the board you want, then click Start a Discussion on the top right of the board view.

⚠️This option isn't available on the Homepage or the Category pages, so make sure you navigate to a discussion board first. You’ll see these listed to the right of the page. 

Once you've clicked the Start a Discussion button, you can set your title, the content of your post, add any attachments, and add at least one tag relevant to the discussion .

Once you’re done that, you can click Publish at the bottom of the page, and the discussion will be added to the board.

Finding Your Discussions & Keeping Up With New Posts

Now we’ll go over the ways to keep track of your posts. If you want to view your own Contributions, you can click your name in the top right, then Profile. Your profile page shows your content and can be filtered by most recent, most likes, and by solutions. 

You can check your notifications (the bell icon in the top right) for activity in response to your posts. You can find more detail on notifications here.

Replying & Quoting Others

When you want to reply, hit… Reply!

It’s important to remember that replies are threaded, so if you want to reply to a specific person or thread, click their post or the latest post in a thread. If you just want to reply generally to the original post, please reply to that instead. 

If you want to thread by oldest or newest posts, click on the "Most Liked" part of the thread, and you'll get a drop down box with the other options. 

When replying, you might want to quote parts of what’s being said. To do this, click the Quote button in the toolbar ( the " icon), paste in the text, then hit enter twice to return to regular text mode to continue composing your reply.

Spoilers

You can use this by clicking the icon of an exclamation mark within a triangle, shown above.
You can use spoiler tags for two main purposes on the forum. The first is as expected, to show respect and not drop potential spoilers on your fellow forum-goers.

Another use of the spoiler tag is to help share large blocks of information without making posts super long. For example, you might be asked for detailed technical information on an issue. Adding such info in spoiler tags helps improve the readability of the discussion while allowing folks to click through to get the detailed and specific information that might be required.

Editing Posts

If you need to update a post for any reason, this is easily done. For the first post in a Discussion, click the cog icon in the top right of the page, then choose Edit

For editing any of your replies, you can click the 3 dots to get a similar menu. 

You can now make any changes you want to your post, including updating images and attachments.

Adding Media and File Attachments to posts

Sometimes you’ll be asked to add media or files to your posts, such as sharing creations, gathering reproduction steps or to gather some specific technical info.

You can do this from the main Discussion composition page, towards the bottom. Click Add an Attachment and a pop up will appear showing your local PC file system. Locate the file(s) desired, choose “open”, then they’ll be scanned or added.

Likes and Solutions

Show your appreciation with Likes, and share valuable information with Accepted Solutions!

Likes are what you’d expect, a way to say “I like this message”. You can be liberal in sharing the love, and likes can be useful for EA Community Managers when gathering info.

We also have a Solution system where important information is highlighted as the solution to a thread, to focus folks on critical info. Solutions will be highlighted, and might be the best thing to check first if you’re new to a Discussion.

Marking the Solution!

If your post has a Solution for your issue, please mark it so by clicking Mark as Solution.

Ideally, a solution will be a fix to a given issue, but in some cases, it may be a referral to another resource, or conclusive information on an unresolvable issue.
