How to send DMs on the forums!
We have Direct Messages(DMs) on the forum! While most of the conversation here is out in the open and publicly visible, at times there's a want for a little more discretion. Such cases might be: We've asked you to share some specific sensitive data (like specific technical info or identifying ID codes) We need to do some very specific troubleshooting that doesn't need to happen in a public place Having one-to-one conversations with other forum-goers here Note: EA staff can't offer personal/account support via DM. Getting started is easy, click on the envelope icon in the top right to go to your inbox. From here you can search, manage, swap to other folders or compose a message. If you know who you want to message, you can just go to their profile page and click "Message" to the right of their banner This will bring up the Compose tool, which'll let you fill in the title, body and add any attachments. It's pretty straightforward, but we hope this helps. And as a reminder, if someone sends an inappropriate DM, you can report it by clicking the 3 dots in the top right, then choosing Report Conversation.413Views3likes0CommentsIntroducing custom avatars.
Hi all, one of the big asks we've gotten since the launch of the forum is custom avatars, and today we're happy to announce they're available. In order to keep content safe for everyone we need to work through the ea.com portal to upload custom avatars, so there's a small extra step, but it's still pretty straightforward. How do I set a custom avatar? Log in to your EA Account page on EA.com. Click the edit icon, and you can choose an item from the gallery, or update your own custom avatar. (fun fact, you can update your account/forum name here too if you wish) Please wait a bit, it can take about an hour for the update to process and be reflected on your account. Normally it's much faster, but we don't want you to be alarmed if it's not instant. When your EA account is updated, on the forum just log out and log back in, and your avatar will be updated. As with any new system, we might see some quirks or issues, so please let us know if you encounter any blips here.5KViews57likes0CommentsSearching for Discussions and Answers
The Search Function There’s a lot of content on these forums, so you might want some assistance in finding specific discussions and/or answers. Which is why we have the Search function! There are three main forms of the Search function, sitewide search, location search and advanced. You can find the sitewide search on every page and location search on board or index pages Sitewide search The sitewide search, as the name implies, checks the entire site. It can also be used to search for specific forum-goers or staff. To start this, click the Magnifying Glass icon to the top right of the page, then type what (or who) you’re looking for in the field that pops up. Location search The location search can be started by clicking in the search bar in the middle or to the side of the main banner. This will populate threads from that location and its sub-board. Both of these will then populate with relevant Threads. The sitewide search will even show matching people and boards on the right hand side. If what you’re looking for is here, great! Click through to your intended destination. Advanced search However, if you want to refine things a bit more, you can press Enter to go to the more advanced search page. Here you’ll see a more extensive list of search options, such as the ability to display by relevance, age, likes or views. There are also a bunch of filters you can apply to narrow down your search. Post priority/Linear v Threaded You can change how a Discussion displays its replies (Linear/Threaded/Community default) from your profile page. Comments/replies in a discussion will be either by posting time or by Likes, and this can be selected on the profile page or in the discussion itself. You can change this in a Discussion by clicking the button just below the first post, which will show the current display style. For general chats, folks may want to stick to the default of threading by Most Liked, to see the most compelling community posts. For technical issues, it may be wise to view linearly by post time, to see how discussion of an issue grew. However this is your choice, be sure to experiment to see what works for you. Filters We encourage you to have a poke around the search and filter options to get comfortable with the search tool. You can filter by: Use Last update to show only content updated in the last day, week, month or year. Whether the Replies have a Solution or not. Location, checking for a specific franchise or board. Check for the presence of a specific Author. The Content Type, whether regular Forums, blogs, Ideas or Knowledge bases. You can also search by Tags. How to find posts from EA Staff You might notice folks here with names prefixed by EA_ and the Community Manager title. That’s us, the EA staff. 👋 While we generally can’t help with 1:1 account issues we’ll be here reading things, gathering info, keeping the boards safe and clean, and probing for information on potential emerging issues. Because of this at times you might want to focus on threads which we open. Discussions we start will have the EA icon, so you can use that to find any updates we have on issues. If you see our EA Icon in on a discussion about an emerging issue we may have important updates too. We’ll often highlight important information by marking it as Solution too. You can also click on the staff member’s name to view their recent posts and solutions, which may also have useful updates for you676Views5likes0CommentsWhat's New on the Forum
Folks coming here may be familiar the older EA Forums or Answers HQ, our established support forum. The new EA Forums have some changes, which we’ll go over here. A broader focus Mark as Solution Linear and threaded views Introducing Tags! A new way of doing Bug Reports A broader focus Previous versions of our game forums were all about conversation and chatter, whereas AHQ zeroed in on troubleshooting, gathering information, and reporting bugs. This new forum aims to blend the best of both worlds: a vibrant social space to chat and connect, and a resource hub to get help, share fixes, report bugs, and resolve issues. Mark as Solution Folks who've used Answers HQ will be familiar with this, but for those completely fresh, this forum has the ability for a Discussion starter (or CM) to mark a post as Solution. For technical issues this might be a fix or workaround, or a critical piece of information. For some wider communication/emerging issues, it might be used to highlight updates or requests for additional info. This should be quite visible, so check them out when you see them. Linear and threaded views You can now view discussions in different ways! This can vary by community/forum, but you can also override this with your personal preference. From your Profile My Settings page, scroll down and pick from your options. Within threads, you can swap from sorting Oldest first, Newest first, or Most Liked first. For discussions, folks may want to stick to the default of Sorting by Most Liked, to see the most compelling community posts. For technical issues, it may be wise to sort by post time, to see how discussion of an issue grew and developed. Introducing Tags! These are super-important, they’re used to show relevant content at-a-glance, for helpers to find issues they might be able to assist with, and to make your content more searchable. Tags are set on a per-discussion basis, and different boards will have different tags available, depending on the content type. In most boards it isn’t mandatory to add tags when making a new discussion, but it’s usually a good idea to do so. For boards around technical issues we've made it mandatory for all to use tags. This way everyone will immediately know what your issue is or on which platform you play. Important information to get help with game! Adding a tag is simple, when creating a new discussion you’ll find available tags at the bottom of the page. Click the relevant ones, and they'll be added to the post when you publish it. We'll continue to evolve how we use tags, so if you have any suggestions don't hesitate to share them with us. A new way of doing Bug Reports We're shaking up how we do bug reports. When you make a report, we will automatically assign the "new" status to it. Once we have a chance to review, we will update the status ("under investigation", "needs info", and more) as appropriate. We'll update the status of these posts as necessary to better demonstrate where an issue is in the reporting process, and you can sort through the various statuses to see similar bugs or what stage your report is at.2.6KViews11likes0CommentsNavigating the language boards on the EA forums
We now have support for 9 languages on the EA forums! English Deutsch Español Français Русский форум Português Język polski Italiano Nederlands (We'll ask folks to stick to the board language, if you're a native speaker of another supported language but prefer to talk in English, please pop over to the English boards.) Navigation There's an important distinction to remember when changing languages on the boards, there's the current site language and the language forums. We like to think of the site language as a Setting, which will flip the site to the relevant language mode, updating buttons and navigation elements. This setting will also update the side menu (the drop-down one in the top left) to match your current language. Note: this doesn't affect the top-level landing pages for each language. However the language forums are Places, they're the forums and subforums dedicated to that language. To change your site language and place, go to the language button in the top right, and choose the appropriate language. This won't change which language board you're on, so from here you can click on the "Go to [Language] community" button, or the EA Forums structure button just under the site header/side menu. You can also update your language from your Profile > Preferences page. Thanks for reading, and we hope this helps. We are aware of potential updates to the language swapping flow and we'll be implementing changes in the future. You can of course give any feedback on the current flow and future changes here.2.7KViews9likes0Comments
