The Sims 4: Quality of Life Roadmap 2026 Over the past 6 months, we’ve been sharing how we’re continuing to prioritize stability, performance, and acting on long-standing community feedback in The Sims 4. In September, we introduced our Quality of Life roadmap and then in November we updated you on progress. Today, we’re sharing a look at our 2026 Quality of Life initiative focused on improving reliability, and reducing gameplay friction across some of the most frequently discussed areas. It’s about making the game you already play feel smoother, intuitive, and more consistent, based directly on player feedback shared in EA Forums, The Sims Discord, and more. While the timing and specifics may vary, here’s a look at what we’re planning to focus on over the upcoming months; March through August We’re going to be investigating improvements on these areas: Sim autonomy: such as Sims choosing inappropriate locations for certain actions, being obsessed with certain objects, or NPC interrupting conversations and other behaviors. Additionally, a large focus on improving Sim sleeping behavior and eyelid animations. Infant improvements: improving infant and caregiver autonomy, plus ensuring infants receive the correct milestones, interactions, and buffs. Crashes and data loss: including fixes for black photo issues and the game freezing or crashing. Our next batch of fixes coming in March is currently being tested by QV, where we’re expecting to ship around 55 fixes, including fixes for 7 of 10 top issues reported by players. Plus, we’ll be updating Sim autonomy improvements based on feedback we collected via our Discord community and votes in the EA Forums. Thanks to everyone who shared their feedback. Look for our Laundry List in the coming weeks that will list out all the specific fixes! September through December: Later on this year, we’ll move our focus to improvements to these key themes, which might include issues like; Dining & meal behavior: issues surrounding Sims eating and drinking, plus improving the overall dining experience. Family trees & relationships: strengthening genealogy systems and relationship tracking to protect the important stories built across generations. But wait, there’s more! We’ll respond to player feedback as we get nearer to this time to decide what to prioritize next. The Year Ahead The exact timing of these fixes will depend on our investigations, as some areas require deeper technical investigation. Sul Sul Simmers, If you’re unable to play The Sims 4, we want to hear from you. The more detail you give us about the issue you’re having, the more it helps us be able to replicate it internally, which is the first step towards fixing it. Please only respond to this post if you have an issue with your game and by answering these questions, as this will provide us the base line info needed for our investigations; Does the game launch at all? If not, do you get an error message? If yes, does the game endlessly load? Does the game load, but buildings, lots, worlds, or Sims are missing? Is this happening to every save, or one specific save? Does this happen on new saves as well? Do you use mods? Does the issue persist after all mods are removed? Have you tried repairing your game while mods are removed? Does the issue persist after repair? Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game? Does the issue persist? Receiving a save file of the issue happening is the most helpful way for us to be able to investigate further. Sul Sul, Mod creators, For the upcoming Base Game update on February 3rd, the team has modified The Sims 4 Python code used for setting and checking the family relations between Sims. Some classes have changed their behaviour to be better aligned with the new genealogy goals, some methods changed their names and signatures, and some tunable fields changed their types to be in-line with the new architecture. This is not a comprehensive list of all code changes, but the changes that are most likely to significantly impact mod functionality. As this is a large change to many systems, we wanted to provide as much detail ahead of time to help you update your mods and reduce friction for any Simmers who use them. We hope this information is helpful and welcome your feedback via the comments below. As a reminder, you can view The Sims 4 Mod Policy here. Logic Changes Key points: SimInfo object still exposes the main interface in Python for setting the individual’s existing sim’s family relations to other sims (existing and purged). The interface was slightly changed, see below. GenealogyTracker object inside the SimInfo still exposes the main interface in Python for checking the individual’s existing sim’s family relations to other sims (existing and purged). The interface was slightly changed, see below. From the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack Base Game update, it will not be possible to set any family relations in Python other than direct parental relations and partner relations for existing SimInfo objects. Any other (indirect) types of family relations (siblings, grandparents, cousins, in-laws, step-relatives etc) will be automatically deduced and managed by the new Family Tree Service, and can’t be set directly anymore, neither by code nor with tuning (loots, household templates etc). Family Tree Service keeps a persistent, always growing family tree graph for all sims in the save. It keeps the data about dead sims even after they get purged from the save (unless they were manually deleted in CAS). It replaced the genealogy_cache entirely. Every node in the graph is either lived or living sim, every edge of the graph is either parent/child relation or a marriage. On every loading, the game synchronizes the state of SimInfos with the family tree graph in the save and family relbits between all related sims. The order of synchronization is the following: Any legacy family relations recorded in Genealogy Tracker, other than direct parental relations, will only be used for portability between Python and client. Only direct parental relations will be used as the source of truth for the Family Tree graph during the loading-time synchronization. Any family relbits, that has no corresponding relation represented in the family tree graph during loading, will be archived / removed from the game. To provide better backward compatibility with legacy saves, that could have been changed by cheats and mods, the game attempts to reconstruct “unknown” parents in the family tree graph for parentless siblings and for grandchildren without parents, from just their relbits, to keep relations with such incorrectly configured siblings and grandparents valid after Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack Base Game update. This always prioritizes safety, so it won’t run in all cases. Python API Changes The following code should perform the described operations keeping SimInfo, Family Tree graph and relbits in sync if applied properly. Any other ways to modify and get family relations will likely give unexpected results and will provide a higher chance for breaking saves. Setting a Parent You can only set a parent to a new SimInfo, that has no family relations yet. You can do it twice to set both parents. WARNING: Setting parents above doesn’t perform any checks for the appropriate and relative age of the parent! This is on the caller to identify a pair of sims which are appropriate for child/parent relationships. Setting a parent which is younger than its child is not recommended and can cause various unexpected issues. Getting/Setting Spouse WARNING: Setting spouse above doesn’t perform any checks for age and inappropriate romance restrictions! This is on the caller to identify a pair of sims which are appropriate for marriage. Getting Relatives The following genealogy methods return id generators for the mentioned groups of sims related to sim_info. Please note that you need to have a valid sim_info to run these methods, so it won’t work if you only have an id of the sim which was already purged (see Navigating Family Tree below instead). Navigating the Family Tree (Read-only!) The Family Tree graph’s traverse() method allows the code to navigate the entire family tree starting from sim id passed as the first parameter. By default it traverses through all linked nodes including those corresponding to already purged sims (which has no sim info in this save). Every traversed node is either lived or living sim, every edge of the graph is either parent/child relation or a marriage. The caller can adjust the maximum depth of traversal with optional max_depth parameter (see below), which by default is set to 10. The caller can also choose which edges to not traverse with the help of a function passed into an edge_filter_function parameter. Access to family tree node’s data happens in the visitor function passed by the caller into the visitor_function parameter. See the FamilyTreeNode’s fields available for reading below. WARNING: Please note that visited_node and analyzed_edge below are references to the actual Family Tree graph data in memory. In any circumstances don’t change any data inside the referred objects! Otherwise this will break the sync between Family Tree graph and the rest of the save, leading to the save corruption. The caller can also choose which graph traversal order to choose - DEPTH_FIRST or BREADTH_FIRST, using the traversal_mode parameter. In the edge filtering function, the following bit flags will be found combined in the analyzed_edge.edge_data bitmask: Tuning Related Changes It’s not allowed to use relationship loots in tunings to set any family relbits other than parents. It’s not allowed to use Relationship Map in premade_sim_relationships tuning to set up family relations between premade sims. New Family Relations Fixup should be used instead if family relations need to be created between households. For in-household relations between premades the household template tuning is used as before. If you’re hitting crashes, infinite loading, or missing lots, please read our post here to see how you can share affected saves so we can gather some critical information to aid our investigations. -The Sims Team Upcoming Update for Mod Users On February 3, we’re rolling out an exciting Base Game update that introduces expanded and improved functionality for family trees, genealogy, and relationship data. These updates enhance how Sims’ family connections are tracked and displayed, and we’re looking forward to sharing more details with you very soon via @TheSims on X and in The Sims 4 Newsroom. Because this update makes changes to core game systems, our testing has shown that some mods - particularly those that extend or interpret family and relationship data - will be affected. This could appear as missing relatives, unexpected relationship changes, or family trees that don’t reflect what you expect. In rare cases, these issues could negatively impact your save. If you use mods that involve lineage, generational gameplay, or complex family rules, we strongly recommend removing them before the February 3 Base Game update and waiting until the creators confirm compatibility. Ideally, these saves would include several generations with family connections such as marriages, children, cousins, aunts, uncles, and great grandparents. What we're looking for: Save files with 3+ families spanning 3–5+ generations. While Father Winter might be settling in back home, we’re back from break to bring you a big ol’ bag of presents, overflowing with some free Coach assets and a bunch of bug fixes. The following fixes are part of our continued commitment to regularly fix top voted community issues. Today we’re shipping improvements to 5 of the top voted Community Concerns, including: the notorious Gallery Upload Error, finalizing fixes for Sims no longer wearing clothes under their privacy mosaic, an update for Sims standing around with Infants, a fix for the Miss Work/School pop up, and a swath of fixes for Photos and Paintings losing data! Coach Collection The Coach Collection, featuring nine new items, drops for free in The Sims 4. Give your Sims the style upgrade you didn’t see coming. Bug Fixes Top 5 Most Voted Fixes: [EA Forums] We addressed the top reported issue: Server Error while Uploading to Gallery/Library. This was primarily a Console issue but could occur with PC. (Base Game) This error is a valid error that should occur under certain circumstances, but we fixed the flow so that it is more forgiving to player systems and far less likely to occur. The Upload button will not be available until all thumbnail issues have been generated. When this error does occur, we have updated the generic “Server Error” message, and players will now receive a dialogue that provides more information and says “Time out during upload. Please check internet connection or try again in a minute.” [EA Forums] In our 12/2/25 Update, we fixed an issue where Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims no longer had clothing visible under their privacy mosaic. We are now addressing this issue for the remaining age groups, fully resolving the issue. (Base Game) [EA Forums] We fixed a notable instance of Sims standing around and not caring for their infants. While holding Infants, Sims were playing an idle animation that delayed responsiveness to queued interactions. This idle was removed. We hope to further address additional Infant issues in future updates. (Base Game) [EA Forums] We fixed an issue where Memorial Portraits and Graduation Photos would no longer display a Sim's image and appear blank. This fix does not address Portraits and Photos that were already broken, but will work on old saves for future gameplay with these objects. (University, Life & Death) [EA Forums] Household, Small Business-employed Sims will no longer receive a 'Miss Work/School' UI pop up when opening a Small Business while the Sim is at the Work/School Rabbit Hole. (Multiple Packs) Save Corruption As part of our ongoing efforts to address Save Corruption, we have two Save Corruption bugs that we’re addressing in this patch. [EA Forums] We fixed an issue where open street objects were being ‘shelved’ and never removed when traveling to an apartment building. (Enchanted by Nature) General Bug Fixes We addressed a handful of other important issues that were quickly rising, particularly problematic, or easy fixes to get in. Base Game [EA Forums] We addressed a rather significant issue where Away Actions at work were causing Sims to never receive Need gains while at work or school due to a change that was made during Adventure Awaits to how Away Actions at work function. We fixed an additional bug pertaining to this where Toddler and Infant Needs will now increase while at Daycare properly. Bladder, Hunger, Energy, and Attention should receive large increases, Fun a small but tapering increase, and Hygiene no increase. [EA Forums] We addressed an issue where the “Fight” interaction was available on all Sims, even if they had a positive relationship. Now, it should only appear if the Sims have a negative relationship. Seasons [EA Forums] Sims will no longer sometimes die of overheating while wearing the correct clothing. Blame the ghosts: this bug was due to the Overheating Ghost type and the aura they emanate. [EA Forums] In a previous patch we addressed an issue where sand sculptures were auto-generating on beaches when it rained a lot. We’re submitting the remaining portions of this fix to ensure it's now fully fixed in all cases. Growing Together [EA Forums] We’ve addressed an issue where it was difficult to unlock the Pull to Stand Milestone. The problem is that Infants need to be near certain specific objects to pull themselves up for the first time, but this is never indicated to the player and sometimes infants aren’t located near these objects. They can still unlock this Milestone as they could previously, but to address the concerns with this not being obvious in many cases, we’ve added a greyed out interaction and hovertip that directs the player to place the Infant in the Crib. While in the crib, the Infant can pull themselves to a stand, and (as an additional option) we’ve added a new interaction to Infant Sims in the crib to pull themselves up once they are ready to unlock the Milestone. This interaction is available on the Infant Sim when the Infant is the Active Sim. Business & Hobbies [EA Forums] We fixed an issue where Small Business Employees were leaving early (only 2-3 hours after opening) if a business was 5-Star and selected customer criteria was supervised customer only. Now, all hired employees should stay on a small business lot while it is open. Adventure Awaits [EA Forums] (yfTop_EP20VNeckTee) no longer has a visible seam on the shoulder when worn by Sims downloaded from the Gallery. [EA Forums] Imaginary Friends will no longer reset and disappear from the Relationship Panel after returning from another lot. [EA Forums] Custom Venues will now save Roles and Schedules with a custom role containing a Romantic Orientation criteria. This issue was resulting in a case of Save Corruption as well that was addressed and is noted above in that section. Werewolves [EA Forums] We fixed an issue where Werewolf offspring of Werewolves had black textures and no pelts upon aging to Teen. Our fix should apply a texture to any Werewolf Sim who is lacking one upon entering CAS and should address old instances of this occurring. Multiple [EA Forums] We fixed all reports of the camera being obstructed by trees in Gallery preview views of lots. [EA Forums] Maids and Butlers will now once again try to mop puddles instead of vacuuming them fruitlessly for hours. We assure you they were trying their best, and we appreciate your patience with them. CAS & Build Mode Tagging Updates We had the opportunity to address a large swath of simpler tagging bugs, making CAS and Build Mode sorting more accurate overall. The Lump of Clay (Base Game) and Stack ‘o Books (Cats & Dogs) objects also acquired some new gameplay functionality. Here are related issues we fixed: Base Game Lump of Clay now sorts as a Kids Activity and also sorts in the Creative Skills Section. It has also been updated to provide Creativity Skill gain for Children Sims. The In Full Bloom Centerpiece is now sorted as an Indoor Plant.
