This article is really amazing — I liked it even more than the Deep Dive Gameplay video.
What I loved the most about the article is the return of Left Stick Dribbling — finally! This means the fun is coming back to the game, and also the skill gap between players will return depending on good or bad timing and correct anticipation. That’s truly awesome.
The article is very long and full of great details. Some parts may need a bit of discussion, but not now — I need to reread all those details more thoroughly.
However, there is one thing that’s still disappointing for me so far, and it relates to both the Deep Dive Gameplay video and the article: all the focus is on ground passes — short ground passes or ground through balls!
There’s no real focus on long passes, crosses, long through balls, or lobbed passes from distance behind defenders, etc. There’s not much detail about this aspect. Also, there aren’t any new types of passes added to the game — for example:
What if you have the ball but you're not facing the goal (the opponent's goal is behind you), and your teammate is making a run forward while a defender is pressing you from behind — why isn’t there a new type of pass that allows you to pass the ball to your running teammate even if you’re not facing the goal? This happens in real football.
So, there’s a lack of difficult passes or new passing types that would add variety and increase the fun. Also, there’s nothing about flair passes in the video or the article — no mention of new flair pass types, their power, or accuracy.
This really needs to be taken into consideration.
But overall, great work so far EA!
