Alright San Van, you’ve got a direct connect to the devs here:

Yesterday, we shared our plans for skate.Pass, the Isle of Grom, and how Early Access is setting skate. up for the long haul. Today, we’re going deeper into what you can expect in Season 3, and how we’re changing the way we handle updates going forward.

Where we left off: the roadmap

Our last roadmap spanned Seasons 1, 2, 3 and beyond, laying the groundwork for San Van’s first few months. With Season 3 just around the corner, let’s talk about what ‘beyond’ actually looks like. We’re shaking things up - here’s what that means:

  • Staying focused on performance and stability
  • Sharing roadmap updates more often – straight from the dev team
  • Being clearer on what’s locked, what’s in development, and what’s on our radar
  • Dropping content throughout the season, not just all at the start

What that looks like

We know you want straight answers about the features you’ve been asking for and where they stand in development. For anything to move forward, we have to feel confident that it’s right.

Sometimes new ideas make it to the roadmap. Sometimes things get pushed back so we can dial them in. And in rare cases, something just doesn’t work and we scrap it. That’s not spin, it’s just how making games works.

In Early Access, change is the name of the game. So, we’re changing the way we share info on our roadmap to reflect that. Each season, we’ll show you what’s on deck, including:

  • A ton of exciting new content dropping at the start of the season
  • More content and features rolling out throughout the season to keep things fresh

Next, here’s what we mean when something is “in development.”

Not every feature takes the same amount of time. Some just need polish. Others need deeper testing and iteration. So on the roadmap, you’ll see two buckets:

  • In development: These are things we’re actively building and planning to release. The big question is when. Sometimes they take longer than we planned. Sometimes they don’t come together the way we hoped and we cut them. Either way, we’ll keep you posted as they move – or if they don’t.
  • On the radar: These are ideas we’re exploring – prototypes, early concepts, or just conversations the team is having. Some of them came straight from you in the community. There is no set timeline yet for these, but if they officially move into development, we’ll call it out.

We’re doing this to be clear about where things stand - and about how we work. The further out something is on the roadmap, the more room it has to shift, or sometimes, be shelved altogether. But we’d rather show you what we’re thinking, even while it’s shifting, than wait until everything is locked. That’s how we want to approach Early Access with you.

For example, Open World Collection was on the last roadmap. We’ve taken it off for now so we can focus on more social features – specifically Meetups and Turn-Based Competitive Modes – which we know are high on your wishlist.

We will keep these roadmaps current, and we’ll share clearer timelines and progress as we go. Thanks for sticking with us while we build this the right way for the long haul.

Our Season 3 (& beyond) roadmap

What’s coming in Season 3

  • Isle of Grom: We’re going back to the (expanded and improved) Isle of Grom in Season 3. Find details on how to access the island here.
  • Darkslides and Dark Catches: These have been on your most wanted list for a while now, so we brought them back in a big way. You will now be able to do ANY flip trick into them - a first for Skate.
  • Updated Bonelesses - Improved responsiveness, reliability, and behavior of boneless tricks performed from ground or transition.
  • New Game Mode - Speedlines: Similar to Line Challenges, but focuses on moving as fast as possible. Let the best line-for-time videos begin.
  • Tattoos: Tattoos can be placed, resized, and rotated on your arms and legs. Some are free, others can be purchased with SVB.
  • Cosmetic Loadouts: We’re making it easier to switch up your fit. You’ll start with three loadouts (with the ability to purchase more) to quickly change your style, character, deck setup, and gestures.
  • Branded Items in the skate.Pass: We’re bringing you more of what you want in skate.Pass. For Season 3, that means more branded items, including adidas, Vans and Thrasher.
  • More Brand Partners: Including huf, Jenkem and more. Some of these will drop right off the bat, while others will make their debut a few weeks after the start of the season.
  • More Replay Editor Effects: We’re adding effects like Exposure, Color Temperature, Color Saturation, Barrel Distortion, Vignette (opacity, size, sharpness), as well as more granular volume control (your skater's audio, other skaters’ audio, and world ambience), and playback speed can now be keyframed.
  • Store V.2.0: We’re reworking our catalogue with over 200 character items, board items, and tattoos available for à la carte purchase. The store is also getting a new look, with improved navigation features.
  • Seasonal Events: We’re making some serious changes to mid-season events. We have big things lined up for you during Season 3, including an event with a new brand partner that we know you’ll be excited about, and new Creator Challenges crafted by a special guest you'll undoubtedly recognize. Prepare to test the limits of your ability.

Looking Forward

In Development

Again, these are features we’re actively building, but don’t have a definitive release timeline yet. As development progresses, we’ll share updates with you.

  • New Social Game Mode - Meetups: A lightly-competitive activity where everyone on the server can jump in for chaotic, drop-in social fun.
  • Turn-Based Competitive Game Modes - Spot Battle and S.K.A.T.E. Hell yeah.
  • Matchmaking System: So you can quickly find people to play with instead of spamming the ‘Party Up’ emote.
  • New World Area: A new playable indoor area is in the works.
  • Unlockable Board Wear and Tear: Build up wear and tear on your boards - you’ll be able to turn this on/off at any time.
  • Finger Flips: Adding another gameplay trick from the previous games.

On the Radar

These are the ‘early ideas’ we were talking about, including some top things on your wishlist (and ours). They’re in the early stages of planning with no defined timeline, but we’ll keep you posted as that changes.

  • Private Servers
  • Underflips
  • Player Created Parks
  • Leaderboards
  • Proximity Chat
  • Legacy Skate 1-3 Spots
  • More Legacy Game Modes
  • More Board Shapes

That’s all for now, but on March 5, we’ll break down everything you can expect from Season 3’s 70s-inspired vibe.

As always, thank you for hanging in with us as we make our way through Early Access. We’ve come a long way together, and we have more great things in store. Keep rollin’.
