In current European tradition, Christmas was a religious holiday commemorating the birth of the messiah and master Jesus on a symbolically designated date, the victory of "light over darkness," when the days gradually stop getting shorter and finally start getting longer.
However, over the past decade or more, Christmas has, in my opinion, turned into a social and marketing event. The problem with this event is that you have to pretend to like everyone, even if someone deserves to be left out and has no intention of changing. This creates such an artificial and awkward situation. Everything is fine in theory if you have supportive family and friends to celebrate this holiday. In my opinion,
So, Christmas has turned into a celebration of illusion and falsehood in modern times, in a sense. Furthermore, religion has become less and less important to people, which I understand. It has become less and less conducive to developing character and understanding of reality, its perception. It has become a social and marketing event. Deception, decorations, and a focus on money, sales, promotions, wallets, and perhaps installment purchases to participate properly according social expectations.
This is only my personal opinion.
