Dear Rally Community,

Every great journey eventually finds its finish line, and today, we announce that we've reached the end of the road working on WRC.

After releasing EA SPORTS WRC in 2023, the 2024 season, including the recently released Hard Chargers Content pack, will be our last expansion.

For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles. Rest assured, EA SPORTS WRC will continue to be available for existing and new players. We hope it remains a source of joy, excitement, and the thrill of rally racing. We've poured our hearts into making it for fans, and we know you'll keep the passion alive.

Our WRC partnership was a culmination of sorts for our Codemasters journey with off-road racing, spanning decades through titles like Colin McRae Rally, and DiRT. We've provided a home for every rally enthusiast, striving tirelessly to push the boundaries and deliver the exhilarating thrill of driving on the ragged edge. We’ve brought together incredibly talented racing developers, worked with some of the sport’s icons, and had the opportunity to share our love of rallying.

Thank you to all the fans who have and continue to be part of our rally journey.

As probably one of the biggest fans of the studio, I wanna thank everyone that has ever worked at Codemasters for all the awesome rallying throughout the decades! You guys are truly the masters at it.

    Really disappointed by the news.

I've been a huge fan since the first DiRT, never been able to kick the vice after it... All the games have been the absolute best at their genre.

Even the last title, which is, for me, absolutely the best rally game ever made, albeit for the problems with the engine...

Which probably wouldn't have happened if EA knew they had to have invested a bit more time and money so that the team didn't have to rush the development while trying to transform the game into what it should never be.

Otherwise everyone currently playing any other rally game would most certainly be playing the EA Sports WRC instead.

Also, EVERY SINGLE PERSON showing any discontent towards the highly anticipated Codemasters WRC, was someone that just DEEPLY wanted to play the game, but was put off by some optimization problem of the Unreal engine... Something that, like I said, could've been mitigated early on.

Rally fans are passionate, and I think the normal yearly release sports game "model" wouldn't quite cut for this genre and audience... A well built, optimized engine with some new stages being released here and there would definitely stand strong for quite a few years.

I expect this to be just a small "cut", to what can hopefully be a very successful straightaway for the team, you guys deserve it...

But being mindful of the "modus operandi" of the publisher... I might just want to thank you all for all the joy you guys allowed me to have rallying throught the years.

All the best for everyone in the studio...
    Cheers mates!

Thank you for best rally games/sims I have ever played. Big fan of your work in last 15+ years. EA WRC in my opinion is epic in terms of locations and overall very nice and enjoyable game. My favourite and where I spend most om my time. I hate to see it abandoned. Hoping this is not the end for Codemasters Rally story.

Once again, thank you for all the fun!

  • To Codies,

I know I've been harsh in the comments section at times. I believe we all owe you an apology for the way we as the consumer group have overly negated the release of this title on the socials which I also believe negatively impacted revenue. It was not a fair discourse, nor was it productive in any way or form.

That said I would like to ask EA corporate what could have happened if the developers were given an amicable timeframe for the initial release, proper representation through the initial release phase like other titles, and a roadmap that didn't castrate the developers ability to produce seamless content when they should have been fixing bugs that shouldn't have been there given a suffocating release expectation.

I am 48yrs old and have been playing Codemasters games all my life, own a great deal of their titles and to see an ancient team like this treated this way pisses me off to no end!

This and expedition 33 will hopefully be a wakeup to the corporate black hole sucking the life out of every human's dreams.

    I agree

    UPDATE 2nd MAY 2025

This game is one of my favourite games of all time along with Dirt 2.0 and ACC.

EA not supporting this game as from this review.

Its a shame it has plenty of protentional.

    ****PLEASE READ DEVELOPERS*******

I urge the developers to consider an alternative strategy.

Ive spent countless hours playing WRC (On cross platforms not just on my PC but other accounts including my friends and families) ..... despite its rocky lunch

I truly believe this game has immense potential. I urge the developers to give it more time and resources to flourish.

A rally game isn't meant to bean overnight success, its a journey.

With alittle more patience and investment I firmly believe WRC will blossom into a classic.

    Solution:

Instead of pulling the plug entirely why not pivot to model focus do regular updates and expansions?

You can make this game into a Central World Rally hub. For example use real WRC updates yearly then in-between use DLC to add more cars and tracks, have a server where people go into lobby and have clans to race each other. As the WRC channel put WRX rally cross into there channel as it used to be called WRC renaming it to RAllY TV. Put everything into WRC game instead of renaming it each year.

We could do the same here and work on it slowly. A branch at a time and expand on it.

This game has a solid foundation and by continuing to develop and refine it they can foster a loyal community of players eager to invest in the games growth. Even by just talking to the community and making live streams.

Thank you for your hard work. But shouldn't you provide a new season update during the contracted period?
