I've tried EVERYTHING here. Absolutely everything. And nothing works. I tried a legacy version of Origin, worked until I restarted my computer. I reinstalled Origin. I repaired the VC++ runtime. I tried to use Windows Update, using the commands, it didn't work (I might've used the wrong version, e.g. x86 instead of maybe x64, though.) This isn't the first problem I've had with Origin.

If there was some way I could play my EA games w/o using Origin, I'm all for it, since I have the discs for all my titles.\

EDIT: System specs: Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1, 64-bit OS, 3.80 GB usable RAM, Intel Core i5 CPU @ 2.40 GHz

EDIT 2: After trying to fix all of this, I installed the latest version of Origin and got Error 9:0. I tried again and it updated but did NOT start up Origin after it finished.

I still just want to play my EA games, and it bugs me that we have to go through all this to do so.

I'll try Windows Update Troubleshooter and try one last time to see if it works.

EA Games Origin latest update is SUCK , I had been tried hard many times but end up it just wasted my time and my money . now i tried to download the old version Origin , it worked fine , i suggest , if you are the user without play online games , you can followed my way , download the old version Origin . PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE THE ORIGIN LATEST VERSION . i won't buy or support any Games from EA , it Damm SUCK technical team . they can't fix their bugs or software problem .

That is what  I had to do... And I am running Windows 10 fully up to date. Origin kept coming up saying it had an serious error and could not continue. I did all the clearing cache etc. This version and UPandDown worked for me.

Origin fails to launch. How to get 1-4 month old version of Origin?

Origin here complaints about missing api-ms-win-crt-heap-l1-1-0.dll. Origin popped up 3 error windows and I'm not sure if *-runtime-* complaint was among them. I only took screenshot about *-heap-* complaint.

I did run Origin\vcredist_x64_vs2015 but it failed: 0x80240017 unknown error. I downloaded individual installer for *-heap-* to my Windows 8. While Microsoft had update to Windows 8, the installer said it does not apply to my computer.

Microsoft stopped updating my computer year or two ago, apparently because I did not update to Windows 8.1 (installation failed). This is quite new computer for me, cannot yet afford for new computer. And Windows 10 is said to break even more games than previous versions.

Well, previous versions of Origin worked ok. Where I get older version? Or how do I run the games without Origin?

BTW, GoG's game application fails to run due this same problem. Steam works ok.

Hi, @anahuj . Unfortunately, the older version of Origin is going to have the same issue, albeit working for about 20 minutes or until you shut down your computer/close Origin.

If I'm correct, Microsoft isn't really supporting Windows 8, so it sucks that you can't update to 8.1. Have you tried  updating to 8.1 a second time?

Lastly, I'm not aware of how to run EA games without Origin. If you have the installation disc, that might help.

For this issue, I'm going to place the blame on Microsoft, not EA or the Origin team. 😮

Maybe someday Origin will be almost as good as Steam....

@bouncypair Try running the troubleshooter a few times. It took a couple tries for it to complete all my fixes. You can also stop/start windows update manually. To do this you'll need to open the command prompt by pressing the windows key + r and typing in services.msc. Scroll down until you see windows update then double click. Someone posted a youtube video earlier that showed this a lot better than I can explain. I'll try to find it again. Keep in mind you'll need to restart your computer after an action for changes to take effect. I should also mention if you haven't updated windows in a while it can literally take hours to complete. It took mine a good hour, I thought it was frozen but no it was just that slow lol.

Well, I found the files but don't know how to get Origin find them. Do I just copy them all to Origin exe folder? Maybe 15 dll files in total.

I presume this is Win 7 SP1

Open a command prompt as administrator and run the following

sfc /scannow 

See if that corrects the issue with windows update

If that fails make a Win 7 SP1 DVD per the following guide and run an inplace repair directions at this link

This will keep your installed programs and data and should fix the issue for good.

I did like you said to try and repair the VC++, but unfortunately I still can't get it to work. It's still giving me the same error like before. Is there any other way to repair this problem or is there going to be an Origin update which is going to solve this error, because I'm seeing other people having the same issue. They are saying it appeared after an recent update, so I'm wondering if maybe the update is the cause of the error and if there is going to be another one solving this problem.

already but it says my Windows 8 is not supported. I downloaded 64bit version for Windows 8. But no.

I know Origin worked and launched my games a couple of months ago. I still want the older version to launch the games in my library. Why is that problem? Should I invent time-machine or would it be easier to provide older version for us who have 2 months older machine/system than now required?

Is this an RT version ? is the only reason i can think of it saying unsupported

The update for Windows RT 8.1 or Windows RT can be downloaded only from Windows Update.

Resetted laptop to factory settings as a last ditch attempt to fix this origin problem. Problem still persists >__<||

this applies for both Windows 7 and 8 , without this update the default error will always be that the runtime is missing.

after this if you are running 64 bit windows ensure both X64 and X86 C++ 2015 is installed.

if after confirming 100% that windows update 2999226 is listed in your installed windows updates

go into add/remove programs and for 2015 C++ select modify on both x86 and x64 and then as you step through select repair.

See if this has any impact on this.

For future reference reset is a bad idea as you lose all user data see this post on how to do a repair install and keep everything

Look at windows installed updates and find kb2999226 and confirm it is listed as installed.

then repair runs on both x86 and x64 C++ as mentioned.

I formatted my pc....ran the updates did what i asked to do that didnt work.

all i could do was keep installing the pack instructed on this thread  ,uninstalling origin and installing it again.

after trying and trying and geting very mad it has now payed off..

i can get into my server

This is ludicrous. The Sims 4 game and the Origin platform break each other. Saves get corrupted. Installed game data goes missing. With NO CHANGES WHATSOEVER to any files, adding/removing custom content, or anything OTHER than just PLAYING THE GAME.

It has now become necessary, if you let Origin update itself OR The Sims 4, that the resultant updates to either or both with make one or the other inoperable.

Origin demands an update.

If no update is installed, only the option to use offline is available.

You cannot repair game files Origin has broken, without being online.

You cannot go online, if Origin starts in offline mode.

If you update Origin, repair redistributables, or uninstall, clean out your registry, and reinstall - and you succeed in starting The Sims 4, it will work. ONCE.

Next session, Origin will demand an update, and here we go again.

I have done this again, and again, and again, until I am SICK of it. Fix this problem. Permanently.

Repairing the redistributables, uninstalling/reinstalling Origin, or anything like either one, just to play the game SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY. Nor, should it be an everyday gotta do, if you just want to play. And that's what it has become. Picking up where you left off is out of the question. NO, you have to FIX the game, first.

I have played this franchise since The Sims 2. I stopped playing The Sims 3 for just the same reasons as above: I spent nearly as much time FIXING the game, as I did playing it.

One gets a sense that this is either deliberate, or the result of RANK INCOMPETENCE. To say nothing of the historic expansion and stuff packs that BREAK everything that came before, especially for The Sims 3, including THOUSANDS of mods made by extraordinarily creative people, without whom this franchise would have died long ago.

Find a solution, EA. Put it in an update, and make it go away, once and for all.

I've tried everything. It doesn't work!

Can't install the windows update kb2999226. No updates necesary for my computer. So I think it's already installed? Repairing doesn't work.

Tried the step by step from @miczu34 but I can't install the Microsoft visual C++ versions: 0x80240017

What else can I try? Is there a way to forget about the origini update and just play offline? Because it was working fine before I updated Origin.

The main proposed solution from this thread (ie vcredist_x64_vs2015 (for 64bit Windows version)) did not work. It says:

Setup Failed

One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup. For more information see the log file.

0x80070424 - The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

I will post the log file separately.
