Re: why are the download speeds extremely slow on origin?

The solution given here is pretty easy to implement and for me in Puerto Rico it made Night/DAY difference since it forces your Origin client to use Akamai Content Delivery Network with a server closer to your location. Can't recommend enough.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Store:Origin#Origin_stops_downloading_after_an_ungiven_threshold

Excerpt from the page:

  1. Exit Origin
  2. Create a new empty document on your desktop
  3. Enter the following in the file:
[connection]
EnvironmentName=production

[Feature]
CdnOverride=akamai
  1. Save the file as EACore.ini
  2. Now start Origin. Upon start you will be asked if you want to import the file you just created on your desktop. Press Yes. This will overwrite your old config-file.

Notes

 The EACore.ini file is deleted from your desktop as soon as you import it. If you ever want to leave R&D mode you need to go to the location where Origin is installed and delete the EACore.ini file found there.

 It has been reported that having Origin in R&D-mode will increase your download speed.

    @ismaelgokufox Literally logged in here for the first time to just say, thank you. HUGE difference for me. Went from 4mbs to 20mbs with this simple fix. Wish people at EA weren't so special.. 'it's your ISP everyone' uuuuhhuh.

    Sad didn't work for me. I get 8mbps on steam and on origin i get 830kbps

  • Did not work for me.

    Let's be honest, it is a total BS that I am getting average DL speed of 4.5 MBs on a 400 Mbs fiber. I start origin, it goes to 16.5 MBs, and then slowly drops to 4.5... goes like t hat for some time and then stops.

    No other platform does that. I am currently stuck on 30% DL of Apex and, honestly, as much as I enjoy the game I am fed up with this nonsense.

  • Hey,

    Tried repairing, reinstalled Origin. It is downloading now - average speed 2 - 3 MBs. Still nonsense.

  • I did try the solution from the other post. Made no difference.

    Had the same issue with the previous update. Had to repair 3 times.

    @5eth_Kilvanteer

    You did restarted your Router and your PC?

    Another possibility is to clear the Origin cache:

    All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.)

    • Close Origin completely.
      (right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close)
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
    • Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder.
      (The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.)
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • Type or copy and paste "%AppData%" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
    • Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder.
    • Delete the "Origin"  folder inside the "Roaming" folder.
    • In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on "AppData".
    • Open the "Local" folder.
    • Delete the "Origin"  folder inside the  "Local" folder.
    • Restart your PC. > test

    Google DNS might be worth a shot too.

    But to be honest, there are many possible reasons, and I'm just guessing.

  • Thanks Holger,

    I will leave the machine overnight and see what happens. If it downloads, good, if not, I will try the solution you shared. I should not have to do all those tricks. Maybe one day this will be fixed. 😉

    Over an hour to download 16g...

    I've done all the 'fixes' multiple times. Thanks for ruining Battlefield.

    As if Battlefield wasn't already ruined by wasting their gamer's time with the TTK reverts.

    Now the download speeds are atrocious. I'm not sure what's going on, it never used to be like this.

    Has anyone found a true fix?
