Re: [Mac] Permission to install Helper Tool error - 2018

In order to try and fix this, EA have provided us with a script which, when run, will create a text file that can be uploaded here and aid them with their troubleshooting.

If you are experiencing the Permission Helper Tool error please download the script, double click on it to open and follow the instructions in the dialogue window that pops up.

Download - https://download.dm.origin.com/download/Origin+Installation+Troubleshooter.app.zip

Please attach the .txt file to your message on this thread. A full explanation is available, here:

    Hi @Tremayne4260,

    Thanks for running the troubleshooter and attaching your results!

    Just to make sure as it seems it installed correctly: were you having the issue to install the helper tool described in the first post of this thread?

    Thanks!

    Hey, I've also been having the permission to install Helper Tool error, on a macbook pro 13inch mid 2014. I have attached the troubleshooting text file, let me know if I can help in any other way!

    Edit: running Mojave 10.14

    I've installed and tried to run it but unfortunately I don't get prompted to insert my password. It says "allow permission" but just pops back up again.

    Tried reinstalling, rebooting etc. and not even the tool seems to be working /:

    I'm running on MacOS Mojave 10.14 from my macbook air.

    Following up on what I said before: I managed to get it working, just needed to restart my computer haha. Here are the files attached.

    I've been having this problem since the end of February and literally nothing has helped - I've done everything in this thread, everything in the other 56 page thread, and contacted support dozens of times and absolutely nothing has worked!!!

    I updated my OS as much as my computer will allow me to, I'm now on 10.13.6 and experiencing the same problem 9 months later ☹️

    Got the examples, thanks for that 🙂

  • I've downloaded this so many times but all it does is keep bringing me to the 'enter an administrator's name and password to allow this' I've been having this issue for over a year now and nothing in any threads have solved it

    thanks alot origin

    @Kerryscave123 That's because the file is not a fix.

    It's a tool that gathers information and it's explained in this article how it works. We need the .txt files that it generates.

    You'll have to click the "Follow these steps" link in order to expand the area so that you can see the instructions and post the .txt file here so that we can investigate.

  • Hello,

    I'm having the same issue as others with the "permission to Install Helper Tool" error.  I recently installed Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6).   I have attached the Origin Troubleshooting text file.

    Please let me know if you need anything else for troubleshooting.

    Hey @theblackfox42

    Thanks for the reply!

    Could you also include a System Report of your configuration? Simply go to: Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> System Report... -> File -> Save...

    It would be very useful for us to have it while investigating your problem further 🙂

    /Ataashi

    @pillowcloth

    You used your Mac password, not the Origin password?

    Is it also Prompting for the user name and did you replaced "User" with your real user name on your Mac?

    I recently tried to update Origin. When I updated it said it needed permission to download a helper tool. I put in my password and it said it could download the tool. After that it took me back to where I put in my password. I put it in again and it asked for permission again. it keeps on doing that and I can't even accesses Origin now. I have tried to uninstall it redownload it and sign in online but nothing is working. I am also on a MacBook Pro. If anyone has any ideas on what to do your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 🙂

    @aspentrout

    Moved your post to this ongoing thread on the helper tool issue. The opening post on page 1 has a few tips but there is no concrete fix at the moment ☹️ Which version of macOS are you running?

    I am so frustrated that I cannot get through with my correct password to download the helper, and I don't understand the steps to fix it. I have tried it all. What are we supposed to do with all these "Text files" I keep reading about???

    @mpbagnati  So you're entering the password for your Mac and the helper tool won't install?  Are you signed into an admin account on your Mac?  What version of macOS are you running?
