sims 4 download failed

I just purchased Sims 4 from origin but when I try to download it says preparing then download fails and shows Error: 196613:0 , I'm working on Macbook air.

  • @JEE526  Do you have a proxy enabled?  If so, please disable it.  Here's how to check:

Otherwise, do you have access to another wifi network you could connect to?  If not, please try to start the Sims 4 download while using your phone as a mobile hotspot.  (Make sure it's using data, not your home wifi.)  I realize it's far too much data to download with your phone, but it's worth seeing whether you get the same error.  You can cancel the download if it does start.

  • Hello!

Please check that your Origin is up to date. To do this go to: Origin > Application Settings > General > Updates.

If this doesn't work, try to enable Safe Mode. To do this go to:  Application Settings > Diagnostics > Troubleshooting > Safe mode downloading.

    I hope this helps.

I tried deleting and reinstalling origin, i tried resetting origin and finally I can’t seem to find the safe mode option when i go to origin>preferences>diagnostic there’s no safe mode option

  • @JEE526  Safe mode was removed from Origin a year or two ago.  Please try uninstalling and reinstalling Origin using this method:

    https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/

When you try to install Sims 4, start with only the base game, no packs yet.  And make sure you're signed into an admin account on your Mac.

If you still can't download the game, please click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, select About This Mac, and list the exact version (e.g. 10.15.7) of macOS you see.  Then click the Storage tab and use cmd-shift-4 to take a screenshot of it; you can attach that to a post here.

    unfortunately it didn't work, I don't know what's wrong.

    macOS Monterey version 12.1 (21C52)

    storage attached

  • @JEE526  Please do another clean uninstall of Origin, then create a new user account on your Mac and install Origin there.  Make it an admin account, and don't sign in with your Apple ID.  Once you've installed Origin in that account, try again to install the Sims 4 base game.

If that doesn't help, please let me know whether you've installed a third-party antivirus or some kind of cleaner app.  Please also post a screenshot of the error, for reference.

@puzzlezaddict it did work when I connected to another network, well thank you so much i have been communicating with the ea help through my mail for 6 days with no result and they keep repeating the same methods for me to try, you should actually work with ea :D

one last thing if you can help me understand why this happened and how to make it work on my network.

update: the game downloaded 60% I paused and tired to connect back on my network but it didn't continue the download and showed failed error

  • @JEE526  It's difficult to diagnose a network error from this end, but the first place to start would be with powercycling your router.  If that helps, great; if not, you might need to contact your ISP to see whether any EA servers are blocked.  The fact that the game downloads on a different network makes the source of the problem pretty clear.

  • I am having a similar issues with updating my sims game.  I am already using a separate admin user on my Mac and my OS is updated to Ventura 13.3.1.  I have received the same error when using my home wifi and my hotspot.  I have had used this platform for the sims for well over 7 years with no issues but have been unable to play for months.  Any help would be so appreciated!
