I've read that the issue should now be fixed. Should some of you still not be able to find your friends in Origin please say so in here.

I’m having the same issues, tried adding my friend through every means possible (Public ID, Email, real name) and he’s done the same for me to no avail, all privacies were open. Please patch this EA, it’s the only reason we both spent $90 on FIFA and now the game is rendered useless to us
I barely just downloaded origin like yesterday and I can't find my friend and they cant find me but I could find and add another one of my friends who has had origin for a while. Are our accounts too new to find each other? Pls help
I had the same problem a few days ago. But i found a way to solve it (it worked for me, maybe not for you).
You have to download EA-desktop (https://www.ea.com/ea-app-beta) and when you have downloaded it you have to exit origin and then open the app (Look at the pictures). Then you need to add your friends and let them accept your friend requests. IMPORTANT NOTE : Your friends need to download the app as well and do the same steps as you but he needs to accept the friend request instead of sending a friend request. Then exit the EA-desktop, relaunch origin and your friends should be there. Underneath you will find the order to look the photos at. I need to reply twice because you can only add 3 photos in one reply and I have more than 3. My English is maybe not so good because I come from Belgium, sorry for that.
This is the right order to watch the pictures:
1) Arrow bottom right corner
2) After you click on arrow
3) EA-desktop opening
4) Adding friend (check next reply)
5) Exiting EA-desktop (check next reply)
6) Friends should be there (check next reply)

Friend list is bugged, also cant go online on any BF games
This is bs. The only way to fix this is to download another usless ap to my computer just to play a game with someone? I don't need all these excessive downloads.
Still on going then as it’s still useless. Funny thing is the new EA beta app finds but they don’t receive an invite to add as friend
