Re: Battlefront 2 hdr bug ps4 pro

Here are some pics from PS4 Pro on a Samsung 4K with HDR on.

Note, I get the same thing with HDR off (restarted PS4) and even in 1080p mode.

TV is KS9000.

Note - no other issues with any other games on system....even ones that do HDR.

@EA_David, here are some comparison pics on Xbox One X:

    HDR on:

Note the brightness and pixelated banding around the planet

Note the pixelation behind the card slots

    HDR off:

Note the pixelation/banding when HDR is on. The brightness is significantly increased on these screens, but not during actual gameplay. And to clarify, I have calibrated the "HDR10 Peak brightness" option in Battlefront settings.

Edit: Linked to larger versions images

Same issue. Menus are bright in hdr mode. The white letters pop and the hdr 10 peakbrightnes squares are bright white. But when jumping into a multiplayer game everything sums really dull. If you go the peak brightness options while in game the white squares are all dull banded and almost gray

Same happens here on XBOX ONE X with Panasonic TX-75EXW784.

Ugly color banding and saturation issues, especially on the loading screens.

Please fix this * DICE, it looks terrible and causes eye cancer.

  • Been told the cut scenes are not hdr only the game play, so the tv has to catch up, change and adjust. In the cut scenes the bottom and top black bars go purpleish. Battlefront 2 , viewing some planets as game loads corners look a mess, again it's apparently hdr changing and adjusting.

The issue is still there after latest patch. Hello DICE/EA? Can you please at least respond that you are aware of the problem.

  • Sadly bought SWBF2 this week without knowing this issue. So, same problem here: Xbox One X, Samsung QLED Q7F with or without HDR. Washed out loading screens with broken tone values in cutscenes. Sucks! 🤬🤬🤬 Hello EA?! Any statements?? Dice??? McFly??? Helloho?

lol. Looks like the game doesn't support HDR at all!

I afraid that HDR problem is not only in menus and loading screens but also absent in the game! It is very well seen when HDR working at my Sony TVpanel (see my config below). In-game proces SWBF2 fire/flame looks not perfect. It is not bright enough. All colors are not so natural as in other games... everything looks muffled (call it washed-out, flat, etc..)

If you have HDR try to do the following - when you are in game, don’t switch the game off, just go out to main ps4 menu screen. It looks completely different (grayish and not bright), if you compare the same when the game is off. Looks like that game when started, switch off HDR effects at ps4. I made the photo of PS4 main menu when the game SWBF2 is on, and second photo when the game is not running. The difference is amazing.

Believe me the hdr works. I can see a major difference in color contrast as soon as hdr kicks in once I see the loading screen. Plus my Samsung 55 inch 8000 series always show when HDR is enabled.

I wouldn’t be surprise that EA doesn’t support battlefront 2 pass 1 year unlike their promise that this would be a service base game. Battlefront 2 didn’t sell nearly as well as projected after the negative national news press of the microtransactions debacle.

Battlefront 1 sold 13-14 million without a campaign and a multiplayer that requires season pass in order to get a large amount of MP content. So EA thought for sure with BF2 with a campaign and no season pass it would sell 15-20 million copies. The sells numbers came in for Playstation digital games top 10 games sold and battlefront 2 wasn’t on the list. So either everyone bought physical copy like me or the game may have only sold 10 million or so world wide.
  • I experience the same problem with the standard PS4 (not Pro) and Sony KD-65XE7005 TV in Gaming Mode. SW BF2 starts loading normal then the Picture disappeares for 1 or 2 sec and then ist all cloudy and crappy. Much to light and almost no Colors at all.

When I deactivate HDR in the PS4 Settings menu it works fine.

Other games like NHL17 or Uncharted 4 work just fine with HDR activated. Really seems to only be a BF2 Problem.

I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t care if they fix the issue. I am going to sound like a broken record. Thank God I only paid $17 for the game at launch and for free dlc content. These things help me cope with inept community involvement by DICE and EA.

I heard DICE may have been told to not interact on social forums with gamers. It’s hard to believe dice didn’t care but who knows with EA involved. I am not excited for the next battlefront 3 if it comes nor any other dice game.
  • I really hope they fix it. Turning of HDR can't be the solution, right?

All other games I tested worked perfectly fine.

I have absolutely no issues with my hdr in any other game. It was a issue on the beta and nothing has changed.

I'm also still seeing the ugliness after the latest update. I'm on a ps4 pro and Vizio M55 . All other HDR content in games and 4k blu rays look great. EA please fix this issue, it's unprofessional that a triple A title hasn't been patched for this yet

Please fix this HDR bug. I have it with Battlefront 1 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 on my PS4 Pro and Samsung 49KS7000 tv.

  • Just want to add that the invalid colors are not seen in the menu if the tv brightness is descreased by 15  (like the difference between the full and limited hdmi levels on both ends of the color scale). Of course in this case the picture looses details and many things become black.
