Even though crates may seem empty, check if you got the reward the crate awarded you with. It's very common for Crate Rewards to appear empty, either due to a graphical glitch, or due to the player already having that reward. If you got the Celebration Edition I believe many milestone crate rewards will give you things you already have unlocked due to you owning that edition, which unlocks many things in the game on the go, instead of the default edition.
