The Sims 2 "You are running the wrong version of The Sims 2"

So I just found my favorite childhood game, the sims 2. I have all of the disks and the serial number, so I decided to install it on my computer. the installation went beautifully. I then clicked on my desktop shortcut to run the game, keep in mind this is only the base game, and I got an error saying "You are running the wrong version of The Sims 2. please run __________ instead." It doesn't tell me what to run. I tried all of the disks, and the same error comes up except with the CD-ROM. I'm using an external CD-ROM but all of my drivers are up to date and I've never had problems before. I restarted my computer and plugged my CD-ROM into another USB port, and I still get the same error. I am a sims fanatic, I have 234 hours in TS3, and 364 in TS4. I would love to finally be able to play my all time fav game TS2. I am only trying to run the base game, I have no/have never had any expansions installed. Please, anything could help!

My computer specs are as follows:
