Re: [UNSUPPORTED] Changed Trait, Wrong Emotion

Have been experiencing the same problem with a couple of my sims- my sim has been getting the bored moodlet (from not dancing) even though my sim doesn't have the 'dance machine' trait. It is even been so bad that its affecting her career because she never has a positive moodlet for work so she can't get a promotion and she doesn't want to do her daily task because she is already bored. I have read on a couple of forums that this might be due to downoading this sim from the Gallery who previously had the dance machine trait, however I changed these traits to ones that I wanted but it seems that game thinks it is. This has happened with a couple of sims that I have got from the Gallery.

    Hi @danielleholyyy

merged your post with existing report.

It's a known bug that the whims/emotions are still influenced by the old traits if you change them through fulleditmode.

  • Hi, Thank you. I did try this before but I'm not certain that I'm putting the right trait (have been putting 'DanceMachine' but I'm not sure it is that one?

I've just tried that and DanceMachine seems to work.

I would try equipping it again (you may need to remove another one) and then remove it.

Try this. Go to cheat window put in testingcheats on, then cas.fulleditmode. Go into CAS remove trait substitute it for another. Save. Go back to cheat window re-enable testingcheats on. Then type traits.equip_trait carefree. This will stop your Sim from getting tense. Do traits.remove_trait dancemachine. Then lastly clear your buffs by going to sims.remove_buffs then put in sims.add_buff inspiredhigh. The new traits will then take effect. I did this with a non-commital sim I had and voila, he's a devoted family man with five kids. Good luck. Hope this helps, Crin. It's a little workaround until the main bug gets fixed.

We don't really support cheats, and are aware that using them can cause issues. If traits.equip_trait and traits.remove_trait are functioning correctly, and provide a usable workaround for the issue of cas.fulleditmode giving incorrect moodlets, then I think we can consider this issue resolved. I realize that it's not technically resolved, but if a workaround for the issue exists, and that workaround is working, then that's all we can do for the time being.

I just wanted to confirm that the "traits.equip_trait" and "traits.remove_trait" cheats appear to work correctly, at least for me. I had a Non-Committal Sim who kept getting Tense from having the same job, used that cheat to remove it and give him another trait, and viola! Haven't seen the Tense moodlet since. Someone is much happier at their job now! 🙂

I know this was a looooooong time ago... but I ended up here after having the same problem with Dance Machine. What worked for me is using console to add it back to the Sim, then removing it again. So order of commands was:

    testingcheats true

    traits.equip_trait DanceMachine

    traits.remove_trait DanceMachine

Make sure you have an empty trait slot beforehand obviously.

So, I had the noncommittal trait for my Sim and when she had a job or a relationship I liked, she would get tense, so I removed it and replaced it with Family-Oriented, she gets sad moodlets from being away from family and all that, but she would still get tense both from being level 5 in her career and being extremely close to being engaged with someone, etc, etc, I tried all of the cheats (testingcheats, cas.fulleditmode, modify in cas, and the traits.remove_trait <inserttrait> and traits.add_trait <inserttrait> but they didn't work.

The only solution I found to a sim getting tense from past traits that were removed was in the rewards store. getting the carefree trait, so that way she wouldn't care anymore and she would never get tense, even during fires or earthquakes (City Pack).

The worst solution I saw was starting from scratch with that character and I'm not doing that, I worked too hard and for too long with her, so I can't do that.

The carefree trait was the best solution I saw, thus far. Hope it gets fixed soon.

This is unsupported. Just never use Edit in CAS to change traits.

Did you tryy adding the trait first (although they have it) and then remove with the add/remove cheats ?

  • I adopted a child Sim and wanted her to have the Loner trait instead of Creative.  I used CAS to change it, but now she gets tense moodlets from "Feeling Uncreative". traits.equip_trait and traits.remove_trait are working (I can see in her Simology panel that adding new traits causes them to appear, and then I can remove them) however Creative does not show in Simology and using the remove cheat does not cause the moodlets to stop appearing.

Is there a different work around/way to fix this?

Don't think there is unless you wanna try with a mod. Maybe MC Command Center can help. Unsure though

@iRhuel Thank you! I had tried removing my sim's former Kleptomaniac trait several times using the traits.remove_trait command, but it never worked, until I did what you said and made an empty slot, then added it back in. When I removed it after that, it was really, FINALLY gone. <3

I managed to finally remove the Noncommital trait from a sim, but no matter what I do, the sim they are married to seems convinced that they are still noncommital. As in if I look in the social bit where you see everyone's relationships it lists that sim as still having that trait. I even tried removing all the traits, which made every trait vanish in the relationship window - so like the husband sim didn't know any of the traits of the other sim. But when I added back all the traits again - those I wanted - instead of showing Foodie, Art Lover and Genius, it showed NonCommital, Foodie and Art Lover. I've tried giving the NonCommital trait back and removing it again too, but it still shows up as if its there, even if I add Genius in first then change up the order of the other added traits it doesn't work. Still thinks NonCommital is in the first spot. Its really weird. I even tried doing the Get To Know interaction after removing all traits and after adding each one back to see if he would learn the new things about the sim. But it stayed the same as what the sim had when they first met.

Has anyone had that happen and know of a work-around? I know the devs are too lazy to fix anything to do with the cheats they created based on their response of "this is all we can do for now". Like no, you could if you wanted actually fix the issue of traits sticking around in weird ways. But they'd rather churn out new packs with new bugs leaving unpaid modders to fix their mess for them.

I downloaded a sim from the gallery into create a sim and changed their traits and am getting this issue. I also still get this problem when I use the “re-traiting potion” which is not a cheat and STILL get left over buffs/moodlets. This is really frustrating. The “remove trait” cheat hasn’t worked for me.

  • I'm still having this problem. Is there seriously no way for it to be fixed?
