Re: 64-bit Mac please help me

@awkssimmer  The Version.tag file is supposed to regenerate each time you open the launcher, so that's normal.  Your mods should be compatible with the 64-bit version as well—any mod that works on patch 1.67 also works on patch 1.70.  The same is true for your saves and most other user content, but anything installed through the launcher, so Store items and some custom content, needs to be reinstalled.

For now, please do a clean uninstall of the 32-bit version of Sims 3.  The uninstaller is 32-bit as well, so you'll need to delete the files manually.

https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

Origin will have installed the 64-bit version of Sims 3 into Users > your username > Applications by default.  This isn't a problem either, but if you want the game in the main Applications folder, just drag the Sims 3.app and the "The Sims 3 Packs" folder to Applications.

Once the 32-bit version is uninstalled and you're ready to test the 64-bit version again, please move the Sims 3 user folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  Even though most of its content should work fine, this is a standard troubleshooting step and a way to keep the process as simple as possible.  You can restore your old content once the game is working properly.

For the missing packs in 64-bit, you'll need to contact EA customer support.  Please see this post for more information:

Okay, I did that and then pressed play and I was able to get to the main screen. I installed all my packs after then went to test if it worked and then it quit unexpectedly again.

For reference, I have World Adventures, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Master Suite, Seasons, 70s, 80s, & 90s, University Life, island Paradise and Into the Future. I've seen other posts where its mentioned that the Pets expansion pack may be the issue to some people's problem, do you think I should uninstall Pets?

@awkssimmer  Pets can cause issues on computers with only integrated graphics.  Your laptop has a dedicated GPU, so I wouldn't expect it to have the same issues, although I don't have a lot of data on your particular graphics card.  Regardless, the issues with Pets show up once a save is loaded; installing the pack shouldn't affect the loading process.

Please try playing in another clean folder.  If that doesn't help, please create a new admin account on your Mac and try playing in that.  Don't link it to your iCloud account (you can skip that step) or import any other settings.  Just open Origin and launch Sims 3, and let me know how it goes.

@awkssimmer  The packs not showing as installed in the launcher is to be expected when playing in a new account.  The files that tell the launcher you own the content are specific to each user account, and they don't copy or transfer on their own.  But it's not a problem for the moment; the only issue would be if you wanted to install Store or custom content through the launcher.

Does the game itself work now?  If so, the issue is on your main account.  In that case, please let me know how much free and total storage your Mac has and whether you've selected the option to optimize storage.  Please don't do this if you haven't already—that could cause more problems here.  Just check the setting and let me know either way.

Yeah, it still says that it quit unexpectedly on my main account. I have 499.96 GB of total storage on my Mac. I have 429.6 GB of free storage and the option to optimize storage is not selected.

@awkssimmer  But does the game fully work in the new account?  If so, the problem is something else in your main account, and in that case, try playing while your laptop is offline.  You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi before launching Sims 3.

If the game crashes in the new account, please move the Sims 3 user folder to the desktop (in that account) and try again.  I'd like to know whether you can get one play session out of a new folder before the game stops working, each time; or whether it's just permanently stopped working in the new account.

I tried playing on the new account and I got to the launcher and pressed play and it went back to Origin. No messaged popped up and I waited a minute or so. I put The Sims 3 folder on my desktop and tried again and did the same thing. Also tried while going offline and turned off the wifi and didn't work.

I tested going offline and turning off the wifi on my main account and it quit unexpectedly when I pressed play.

@awkssimmer  Do you use a third-party antivirus, and if so, which one?  What about a cleaner app?  The fact that the game worked once in the new account but not after is definitely strange.

If you want to try playing with no packs, in either or both accounts, you can drag the "The Sims 4 Packs" folder out of Applications or Users > your username > Applications, wherever it happens to be.  You'd need to do this from your main account if it's in the user Applications folder, but the change would then affect both accounts.

No, I don't use a third-party antivirus or cleaner app.

I tried that on both accounts and it quit unexpectedly on my main account again and went straight back to Origin on the other account.

@awkssimmer  Please uninstall Sims 3 through Origin, then do a clean uninstall of Origin, as described here:

    https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/

Create another new admin account on your Mac, again not connected to your Apple ID, and use that account to reinstall Origin and Sims 3.  Let Origin install the game in the default location, i.e. Users > your username > Applications, and you can install every pack you own.  Try to play, and if it works, restart your computer and try again.

That worked! I play tested for a few minutes and it was running fine.

@awkssimmer  Great, let me know if you need more help.

You can certainly test in your main account if you want, but if that doesn't work, I'd suggest just using the secondary account.  If you'd prefer to troubleshoot the main account's issue further, there are a few more steps you can try, but I wouldn't count on any of them making a difference.

Okay I went to test it on my main account and it said to redownload the game and all the packs, I didn't want test to it yet, do you think that redownloading on my main account will mess with it and not allow the game to work on that other account? If you think thats the case then I won't mess with it.

I also transferred my Mods folder over to the other account. I went to play and it quit unexpectedly! I trashed the folder and then it ran fine again and was able to play. Maybe that was part of the issue the whole time? :O

@awkssimmer  In my original reply, I suggested playing in a clean user folder and said that meant allowing the game to generate a new folder and not putting anything into it.  That would include mods.  I also mentioned the clean folder a couple other times in later posts.  So while your mods might be a problem, they shouldn't be the problem if you continued testing in a clean folder as requested.

You can of course proceed to testing your mods in the new account and try to figure out which one(s) you need to remove.  The 50/50 method can help you get through a lot of content quickly:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

The fact that you'd need to redownload Sims 3 on the main account is strange: Origin would normally recognize the game as installed even when it's through a different account.  That in turn suggests some other issue with your main account, whether it's with settings or permissions or something else I'm not thinking of at the moment.  So I'd just use the alternate account to play, at least for now.
