Re: Sims 4 step parents

Yeah, this would be nice. Please block romance too. I had it often enough that stepparents began to flirt with the stepchildren. In my story I have a mermaid which have vampire stepparents. I needed to give him *official* status because the stepparents would not stop flirting with him as he become young adult! This step removed his official parents from his genealogy, which I don’t like. //<- It was my vanilla save. We all know how faithfull sims are in vanilla.

  • I can't link it of course, not even sure if I can say the name of the mod, but there is a mod that lets you set family relationships that I remember seeing not too long ago. I tried it and it didn't quite work properly for me, then again to be fair my game hasn't been updated in a very long time so I'm sure it was a conflict of game version and mod version. I'm not sure what the latest version of the mod is, or if it will work on the latest version of the game, but it might be worth looking into for those of you that want more family relationships.

Oh and by the way, I TOTALLY didn't put the "set family relationships" part in bold because that is the name of a mod or anything. I'm just... uhh... telling you how to potentially Google it.... yeah... that's it....

@daikoyu  The mod I'm talking about has what seems to be an optional add-on mod to stop romance. No idea how it works, or how well it works, though I would guess that if you set any sims to a family relationship with the main mod then romance between them will be blocked.

If anyone is curious, I just looked it up again and here is the list of relationships that it says you can set.

    - grandparent
    - grandchild
    - stepbrother/sister
    - aunt/uncle
    - niece/nephew
    - cousin
    - stepmother/stepfather
    - godmother/godfather
    - godson/goddaughter
    - adoptive parent
    - adopted child
    - great-grandparent
    - great-grandchild
    - ancestor

Oh, I know this mod. It never tried it because I don’t need it in my modded game. Generally, I think this option should be a vanilla function.

I complete forgot this mod because I only recommend mods which I know they don’t harm the game on long run, self if you use an old version. It is nice that you give an alternative for user which want to use it, thank you @valohim666

  • @daikoyu  Yeah I agree about being a vanilla function. I've always hated that you don't get more family relationships. It would be nice to see more family relationships implemented into the game, that way there wouldn't be as much unwanted romance going on between sims that should be flagged as related. Even if they don't want to add a bunch of relationships, it would be nice if they could at least give us some sort of generic "family" flag that is either automatically or manually set.

Yeah that's why I'm not specifically telling people something like "HEY USE THIS IT WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS", because without me having an updated game version on PC I can't actually say whether the mod works or not on up to date game versions. It didn't work properly for me, but that's most likely because I haven't allowed my PC game to update since like 2019. It's a shame because I could really use it too.

In my PC game I have a family 6 generations deep, and thanks to a custom trait I made most of them are still alive. When given to a sim the trait gives a bunch of the reward store traits I regularly give my sims, then on top of that I used the hidden trait Alex Moyer has (the one that makes her immortal) to make sims that have my trait immortal. So since my sims can't die, and since the family is that deep, a lot of them aren't considered family which could easily lead to unwanted romance. So that mod would have been really useful, but oh well I guess that's the price I pay for not updating. Guess I'd need to expand my own modding capabilities and make my own mod if I wanted that sort of functionality.

Yeah, this mod is basically a Must Have for me, just to avoid really uncomfortable romance stuff. I cannot stress enough how much I DO NOT WANT a sim who raised another sim from childhood to suddenly be able to or even want to do romance interactions with them as soon as they age up to young adult. Sims should have the option to adopt the children of their partner, and honestly, kind of wish there was just a "like family" designation you could have the option to put on basically any sim relationship. You wouldn't have to use it if you don't want, but I'd personally love it if sometimes I could have two really good friends who just are NEVER going to be "that way" about each other because they're more like siblings. There just needs to be a lot more family type things beyond the really limited ones in game, and I'm kind of annoyed they didn't do more to patch this when Growing Together came out. There's all these "family dynamics" now, but such limited relationships they can be applied to.
