Re: [ARCHIVED] [S] Iceproof Sim freeze to death/get chilled moodlet

Got a notification when I saw replies to this. I admit that I completely forgot about this issue, but I did have it happen again and forgot to take a screenshot.

So, this is something that definitely still happens on both console and pc. The screenshots I shared were from when I was still playing on the console.

I have almost all the same packs on my pc now, and my twins’ father came home from work chilled and blue like he was about to freeze. He’s in the diving career, so I assumed he somehow got the moodlet from a work event. Calum has the ice proof and cold acclimation traits like all my merfolk do.

This wasn’t the most severe instance of this happening to me, and I was able to resolve it by changing him into cold weather attire. He warmed back up sleeping outside.

On the Console, Zephyr’s Son ended up getting a more scary encounter with this bug. It did take quite a bit of effort to get him out of danger. I ended up having to put him into cold weather attire, get him inside, and pray he wouldn’t freeze. This instance was on the console so no mods. Just a big scare involving one of my favorite sim’s son nearly freezing to death in Sulani on a sunny day.

I admit, this happens less often for me nowadays, but it does still happen. As of now, I have not had an instance of sims freezing to death because of this bug, and I think it might have something to do with the world. Sulani never snows, so I think it makes it easier for sims to recover.

I imagine that worlds that get colder have more hazardous conditions for sims that experience this bug.

As I interpreted the traits, the “acclimation” traits make sims immune to death from freezing/overheating but allow them to feel the effects of weather. The “proof” trait not only makes them immune to the deaths by weather conditions, but it also gives sims the positive moodlet from the extreme temperatures.

Based on that, I’m wondering if the “acclimation” trait conflicts with the “proof” trait?

They have a trait that makes them feel uncomfortable because of the temperature but immune to death. They also have a trait that replaces the negative moodlet with a positive one while making them immune to death.

Because this is a bug I experienced on a platform that doesn’t support mods, I don’t think mods are the root issue.

I hope this info helps with resolving the bug.

For anyone that experiences this bug, the only work around that I’ve found is:

changing a sim into their cold weather outfit

AND

getting them inside near a fireplace

OR

somewhere that isn’t cold.

Important: Watch the thermostat that comes with seasons. It’s possible to make indoors cold like the outside, but it’s also possible to help warm sims up by changing the thermostat to hot. Without the thermostat, the temperature inside is neither too cold or too hot… more of a neutral cool/warm, and I think it slides back and forth depending on the outside temperature, freezing/heatwave.

@Metior_IceHmm, I could try testing it on a Sim and check if she has both traits, maybe it is a conflict. Because I do recall that I took both on one of my Sims that ended up freezing to death.

Though, I am not sure acclimation is intended to protect them from dying, as it's cheaper.  So it would be okay if it did. What matters is not dying, unless you get annoyed by the spam. Actually did laugh at that when I was playing a werewolf. She spent the entire day outside and she was blue and slow and miserable and I kept getting spammed that she was freezing to death, but of course as a werewolf she literally cannot die.

Hmm, it seems it might have just been a glitch, as I literally just went to the very same Sim (who does not have both as I previously thought, just Iceproof) that had frozen to death last time I played her (she was saved by her familiar) and just had her swimming laps in a swimming pool and I even went all out and put her in her warm weather outfit prior just to try to maximize her chances of death by freezing, she was happy and having fun, not freezing.

So seems it IS working... sort of? Like its possible there is still a glitch somewhere but seems to be working now.

    EDIT:

Okay, spoke too soon... here she is frozen, as you can see she has the buff that she should love the cold but she ALSO has the negative buff and that just killed her (again, her familiar will be able to save her, but still.)

EDIT: Okay so a bit more testing, it seems you DO need to still wear your cold weather outfit.  As you can see there she's wearing her swimsuit and then after she warmed up after that brush with death, I saved and then took her back out... she was fine until she put on her bikini the stated to freeze again, swapped her back to her cold weather and she immediately dropped the debuff.

I guess it doesn't actually say you can't freeze to death, just that you enjoy the cold.  So maybe it's not a bug, just a bad name that implies it does more than it does?

Have you ever noticed your sim with the Heatproof / Iceproof trait be negatively affected by the weather BEFORE any sim in the household without those traits?  Because that's what tends to happen in households for me; especially indoors.  They also still have the blizzard walk.
