Here is the list of the sims that could give you a "can't marry sim because they work for your sim, or one of your playable family if you do rotational play. Any retail employee, restaurant employee from a player owned restaurant, pet clinic, fans stan babysitter, and nanny, also butlers. Maids Gardener and repairman if you set them full time, even the pop squad, I don't know what you would call that fame perk I am not in the game right now.
Keep in mind when they say work for you they are most likely talking about a playable sim in anyone of your playable families.
@Sid1701d9 that was the problem I had. My Sim was trying to marry the former mail carrier. I forced the marriage with a mod, and that worked.
