- @SheriGR I already did the repair but the problem is still here.
@aya_skiee I did find this on blank canvases and wondered if this is what you're having: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Is-that-only-me-having-the-blank-painting-issue/m-p/8929392/highlight/true#M25921
Also, can you try setting your graphics to the highest settings to see if this makes a difference? Go to Options Menu > Game Options > Graphics and choose "Ultra" in the "Graphics" dropdown options.
@aya_skiee Also, please do the following afterward (after changing the graphics settings):
- Exit your game and Origin
- Go to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4
- Delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder (your game will re-create this folder next time you open the game)
- @SheriGR No it's not the same as that person's problem. But I'll check the graphics just to make sure.
It's weird because it's mostly paintings that were done by the 'Paint by reference' option that disappeared. Also the photos that my sim's took of each other. @aya_skiee Odd indeed. A few questions:
- Did they just spontaneously disappear or did you save the lot to your library then place it from your library?
- Any other factors that happened between when you saw the special photos or paintings and now? (Such as a patch, save/place from the library as mentioned, etc.)
- When was the last time you saw them in the game showing properly?
- Is this happening in other lots in your game?
- If you move this family to another lot, do you see the same issue?
- If you save the home and place it on a different lot is the issue there?
I followed the steps and the images have not changed back.
I checked the graphics and they are on the highest setting.
This is what it looks like.
- @SheriGR I moved the sims to the house I build on that lot. The paintings and photos were in the sims' inventories when I moved them in. Some of the photos were black when I tried to place them and some were not. The paintings were fine when I placed them and I could see them perfectly last time I played. The paintings disappeared when I loaded the game today. I think there must have been two patches between the last time I played and today.
I just checked another family and their photos are black as well...
Could it be that the game can't find the folder that the images are saved in? @aya_skiee Can I have you try something, please? I just checked in my game in a lot I had previously made that was uploaded with a paint by reference on the second floor, back balcany. I still see the painting there, plus when I place it from a save of it that is shared to the gallery in my library the pic placed correctly and still shows. Can you see if this painting shows up properly in your game if you place this lot? I am going try a couple of other experiments in the meantime: https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery/0109E981B5F311E9826A898789D8E217
@aya_skiee I have done a few of additional experiments/checks in my game:
- I loaded a home I had with photos taken of the Sims in the household. The photos show fine, plus if I save the home to the library then place it on another lot, the photos remain:
- I had my Sim create a new paint by reference painting...
- I dragged this painting to the wall...
- Then I had my Sim take a photo (yes, a weird one) of this new paint by reference painting. I dragged that to the wall and framed it:
The photo of the painting and the [painting itself remained. - I then left the lot and re-entered the lot and the photo and painting remained on the wall and were not blank.
- I tried placing this photo and painting in the Sim's Personal Inventory and moving them out and they placed fine on a new home wall.
- I also tried having her take a photo of another Sim, then framing this and putting it on the wall too. I then had her move the household via the computer and 'keep furniture' so that all of their goodies were placed into Household Inventory. Then they moved to a new lot. I dragged all three of these items from Household Inventory on the new lot to the wall and no pics/paintings were missing.
So... unfortunately I could not reproduce the issue in my game. With what I described, what do you thing is different compared to your game?
Edit:
These were not photos and paintings taken from a University Housing lot or graduation photos, right? https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Photographs-turn-black-Patch-1-58-69/m-p/8471971/highlight/true#M112725Also, there were some previous issues with blank &/or black photos/paintings that we were wondering about - if possibly they are affecting these households if they are from an older save? Could you please check if the issue is present if you make a new Sim in your game on a new lot?
- I loaded a home I had with photos taken of the Sims in the household. The photos show fine, plus if I save the home to the library then place it on another lot, the photos remain:
@aya_skiee I only see paintings covered in this Bug Report, but do you think it could be your issue? If so you can 'me too' it, plus 'me too' the photo bug report previously mentioned if that covers your issue. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-Paint-from-reference-sometimes-turns-black/td-p/9375785
Thanks! That seems to be my problem.
I clicked the me too button too.
Also, I downloaded your lot and moved my family in along with some of the blank photos and paintings and they are still bugged. Your paintings and photos are perfectly fine,
I can't open this link though https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-Paint-from-reference-sometimes-turns-black/td-p/93...
@aya_skiee Good to know! Please try this link: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-Paint-from-reference-sometimes-turns-black/td-p/9375785
that is my exact problem! I've never stored my photos inside of anything other than my sims inventory and i have taken brand new photos and they are all still blank
