Re: [FIXED] [MAC] Windenburg flora looks weird on low settings

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.58.69.1210
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them except the following stuff packs: * My First Pet Stuff * Moschino Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? See below. I have noticed this mostly in Brindleton Bay and Windenburg, but it may be occurring elsewhere, too.
What happens when the bug occurs? Certain plants and grasses are appearing as blocks, like there is something wrong with the meshes. So far I have noticed it the most in Brindleton Bay and Windenburg. There is a lot all around the 'Dock Den' lot in Windenburg, for example.
What do you expect to see? The grasses and plants displaying properly.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. It started happening around the time I installed Discover University, and the associated patch.

If it helps, I am on a Metal compliant Mac running Mac OS Catalina Vs. 10.15.1 . There may have been custom content installed with the patch downloaded (it auto-installs from origin), but I have since removed all custom content, uninstalled and reinstalled the game from Origin, and this problem persists.

@sussexbound With your Mods/CC out of the game please also delete the localthumbnailcache.package file in your 'The Sims 4' folder. Also delete any other folders in the 'Sims 4' folder with word cache in the name. Please then check if the issue is gone.

If the issue remains, please set your graphics in game to 'ultra' and see if the issue remains after this. Find these settings at Main Menu > Options Menu > Game Options > Graphics > Graphics Quality > Ultra.

@sussexbound I merged your post with another thread on this.

It seems to be related to laptop mode. Do you have that on ?

Hello! I'm still having the same problem. I accidentally pressed the "Accept Solution" button, and I don't know how to fix it! I'm really sorry!!! How do I turn it off?

EDIT: Nevermind. I managed to turn off "Accept as Solution." I apologize for the confusion!

  • I found the laptop mode setting and turned it off, and it did fix the problem, but now I think the game is taxing my system too much.  There is super lag, and the camera is tracking really jerky.  I'm just curious about why this only started after the last patch and wasn't resolved by the most recent one.  I guess I'll put my game back in laptop mode, and just put up with the grass issue for now, but it really does look kind of awful.

@sussexbound It is some kind of bug. Was just curious if that's solving it for you as well. Best to put it back on and live with the issue for now.
