Re: Finding mailboxes in house in new builds

Is the game spawning a second one or is the one inside the only one on the lot? Sometimes placing a lot from the library or gallery can delete the mailbox and if one isn't manually put back the game will spawn another one. It used to always spawn it outside until a few patches ago for me, but making sure a mailbox is where I want it before going into live mode has always prevented it from spawning new ones.

  • @siladris  Good question.

I believe the only one is the one generating inside the house because the first time it happened, I moved it ouside, bought another one and placed it then deleted that one.

This time, I just moved it outside.  I never checked for another one but if I had deleted it and it had been the only one it would've come back.

But I know that the lots require mailboxes so I never delete one without making sure there is one on that lot.

@SimzSizzle Seems it works now. I know the template is currently a pain in the b* ☹️

Does it happen to every house you download or a particular one ? Could you post name/creator if it's a specific house ?

  • @crinrictHi what I believe happened is after I put a house I built in my library, then placed it after finished building, the mailbox was in the house.
On another separate incident, I didn't build the house, but I was moving a Sim so I put the house he was living in in my library and then placed it, the mailbox was in the house.
It has something to do with saving to the my library.
I mistakenly thought it was because I got a home from the gallery because one of the homes I placed I didn't build, and it happened then too, but the one thing in common beside the gallery is I saved them to my library.

On one occasion it was a home I had downloaded a long time ago from the gallery, I didn't build it but my Sim had been living in it for a long time.

I did this 3 times so  bear with me, and in 2  incidences the mailbox was in the house.

In the other two occasions, I had built the house myself and didn't share them to the gallery.

One of them was the one I produced a picture of and the other was a house I built for another Sim. I can get a picture of that one if you need it.

Both of them were saved to my library.  The house I didn't build myself was also saved to my library because my Sim had been living there for a while.

I had done a few renovations to it and it was a home in Windenburg. I saved it to my library and then placed it and moved my Sim. I noticed the mailbox was inside, but I just moved it thinking it was a one time thing. Then it happened 2 more times.

  • @crinrict

I recreated the problem. Build a nothing small house, saved it to my library, and then, created a Sim and saved him to my library.

Then I placed both Sim and small house and as you can see from the pictures, the mailbox generated in the house. It never was outside the house.

This is a small nothing house I built.

I misspoke and said the house came from the gallery and that the problem could be recreated by placing a house from the gallery, but I was a little short on remembering the steps I had taken over a period of time, because it happened over a period of time, at 3 different times, not just in one session.

Picture one will show the small house and the mailbox is missing from outside.

Picture two will show the small house with the mailbox inside.

I had placed the Sim already.

@SimzSizzle So this basically happens if the house has no mailbox on it's own ?

What do you mean by a nothing small house ?

Does it happen on every lot ?
  • @crinrict  You asked if this happens to a house that doesn't have a mailbox, and I guess technically you could say that.

While in the players library, the home has no need of a mailbox, it is only after the home is placed the mailbox is required, and

when it generates it is inside the home.

But I want to add that in two occasions I was moving a Sim, and before I had taken them from the home they were living in, their homes had mailboxes.

One of the homes was already fully built, and I just placed it, it was the same home they were living in, I just moved it to another NewCrest where another Sim

I wanted them to meet was.  The mailbox was in the house after I placed the house.

The other home was a home in Windenburg, it had a mailbox. I made some changes to it, and saved it to my library, then saved the Sim to my library,

and then bulldozed his old house and placed his upgraded, renovated one from my library.

The mailbox was in the house.

The 3rd time it happened, was in NewCrest, after I had received a message from EA that a home my Sim was living in was created with game packs I didn't have, and

some of the things in the home would have to be removed, I decided to build her house myself, because that home she was living in, I had downloaded it from

    the gallery.

Here is the thread I started after receiving that message from EA.  I tracked down the house on the gallery  to look at the packs the game was saying it was created with, because I thought I had most of the ones used to create the home.

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/remove-packs-listed-in-creation-gallery-sims-4/m-p/9838115#M41401

Turns out the gallery was having problems identifying packs the game was using to create things, and I don't know if that ever was fixed.

After I build the new home, and saved it to my library, I made sure she was in my libary, then I placed the new home, and moved her.

She walked into the home and the mailbox was in the home. That's one of the pictures I had posted.

The 4th time it happened was when I recreated the problem. I built a small nothing home, created a Sim and placed both in NewCrest.

The mailbox wasn't outside the home, but when you open the home, its there in front of the door.

What do I mean by a nothing small home 🙂  nothing really just a term I made up on the fly.

The home doesn't have windows, its small, it has no furniture, no paint, its a nothing small home 😃

You asked: Does it happen on every lot.

It has happened on 3 different lots, in at least 2 different worlds: Windenburg and NewCrest.

4 lots adding the recreated problem.

  • alright thanks @crinrict

I just would like to add, yesterday I had placed a house without a Sim, and the mailbox was outside intact.

I'm no expert on these things but it sounds like the mailboxes are attaching themselves to the Sims.

In all the other cases, I was moving a Sim in and they had lived in other places before that.
