[OPEN] [GTW] Can't Upgrade the Simray in the Invention Constructor

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.96.397.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Every EP except Eco Lifestyle, Highschool Years, Growing Together Every GP except Star Wars, Vampires, Realm of Magic, Werewolves Luxury Party, Cool Kitchen, Fitness, Movie Hangout, Bowling Night, Moschino, Backyard Stuff, Laundry Day
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Upgrade a Simray by dragging it to the invention constructor. 
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim says they cannot get to the Invention constructor.
What do you expect to see? The sim upgrading the Simray in the invention constuctor
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

I've only seen this occur in the Science Lap Lot because that's the only lot in my save file that has an invention constructor.

    Yes, because the "Invent Device" option is present when I click the Invention Constructor. I think I have found a temporary fix. I need to first chat with the robot before I can upgrade the Simray. But I don't think that should be the case. I should be able to upgrade it just by clicking "Upgrade Simray."

    @crinrict I’m also having this issue on Mac. I’ve moved into a middle of a room, but sim acts like something in the way. I’m sure nothing else is in it

    Same. They wave their hands as though they can't get into the machine and the action cancels out, even though I can invent a device, I cannot upgrade the sim ray. It makes it useless and difficult to fulfill the job tasks.

    I'm also having this problem, my Sim can brainstorm, chat with the robot etc. but upgrading the simray doesn't work.

    I've been having this issue as well recently, both with and without mods.

    I did find a workaround (at least for PC users?), which hopefully might work for others: in build mode, delete the constructor robot and then undo that action (ctrl+z on PC by default) so that comes back. After that it worked just fine. Note that you will need to enter the bb.enablefreebuild cheat in the console to be able to go into build mode in the Science Lab.

    I also noticed this issue.  I did find a relatively simple work around however - if you first chat with the constructor robot, and queue the upgrade simray command, my sim could successfully complete the upgrade action without the pathing error.

    There's some other bugs with the Invention Constructor, specifically the object animations and effects centering on the player instead of inside the machine's working space. I only found this out because I started a new Not so Berry run out of boredom to see how bugged the scientist career is. 😞

    I'm going to create a ticket specifically for my issue but I just wanted to add it here so other simmers can be aware that the Invention Constructor object is currently a bit wonky in a number of ways that it wasn't a year ago.

    One thing to check is if you are clicking on the SimRay or the Constructor to upgrade. I discovered if I clicked on the SimRay and tried to upgrade, it wouldn't do it, but if I clicked on the Constructor machine and upgraded from there, it worked fine. Just a suggestion to try out!
